Yep we also carry Resessive genes that can be passed over but pair them up with other resessive and you get Einstine, Copernicus, Euclid... Mozart, Antonio Stradivari (violin maker), Leonardo De Vinci...

But anyway, I think testing can be useful when it comes to determining a pace of learning for a student, so they aren't bored to death, or overwhelmed with difficulty. Sure, it won't identify every talent, but it can be used to at least set a baseline speed that the child should be taught at.

I prefer Bing over Google. Just seem to have better luck finding what I want there. :idunno
 I think one cow would move in if she could. That would be Maisy who loves attention:

This one is Merry who is also very confident and sweet:

Then there is Milkshake who is warming up to us and has discovered that having a scratch is rather good:

And lastly Macaroon who is still a bit skittery but she's getting better:

Those photos are from a couple of weeks ago so I must get some new ones. They are supposedly Murray Grey crossed with either Friesian (Holsteiners to you) or Jerseys. I think Merry is a Jersey cross as she's smaller and has the shorter, cuter Jersey face. It will be interesting to see how they turn out.

And somebody asked if we still had cockatiels inside (sorry - I forgot to hit 'quote') and yes, we have quite a few as there was a second batch of babies that we have raised. They are all so adorable. But one special one is my Cameo who is a cinnamon pied lutino hen. She's going to be so pretty as the cinnamon comes through as a lavender wash on her wings. It's very light at the moment but will darken a bit as she gets older.

And we are keeping our little special white baby who is now called Sprout. He's only a little thing and we just adore him. Here's a photo of him enjoying a full face scratch:

Enjoy your Christmas Eves everyone and have a relaxing Christmas Day. I'm just waiting for two excited children to go to sleep so I can do the same. We are going to my younger sisters place tomorrow and my older sister is up with her partner from Kapiti (near the bottom of the north island of NZ) so they are coming out to visit us on Boxing Day (which you guys don't have, do you?). So I may not get on here in the next couple of days but hopefully I can stop by more often.
Nice picturs!! Do you mind showing some pictures of your new house\property..!! I appreciate those kinds of pictures! Especially land layout I like that.

Thats a tough call. As a Single parent I had to send my son To public school. But with help from family to get him to and from school he did pretty well. He didn't learn to curse till after high school and never in front of us.

I have to tell you the education system here in California is Very Very broken. He got bullied because He corrected teachers often. Then he got very angry when the teachers spent their time Disciplining rather than teaching. Not with the teachers but with the other students.

when He hit college he was finally in the atmospehere he wanted. Teachers AND Students that wanted to be there. Subject matter that was focused toward what he wanted to learn.

By the time he was in Second Grade he was reading almost at college level... He rarely asked me what some words meant, Because he could figure it out through Context. But when he did ask I would give him Straight forward answers.

His father, Where ever he is, is a printed Circuit Board designer.... I Earned a Manufacturing Engineer title by doing the work. Couldn't afford college. Got as far as Calculus in community college. I had wanted to become a Writer but was discouraged by family.

Didnt stop my thirst for knowledge though. Hes the same way. My son failed a major course in while going for an Astronomy degree and had a nervous break down. I told him he was in good company because there were Grad students taking the course for their second time.... Astrophysics... Not even math majors are required to take it.
So mid way through he changed degree programs.

He got his degree in Geology.

But you see his gift "true gift" is in Absorbing a subject and being able to Write it in laymans terms. I can see him writing for the EPA or some Geologic consulting company. He loves field work, taking samples and analysing data.

Those qualities came from home not from school. And he survived school.

  • You have a Very smart kid. I agree the educational system is very broken. You have a lot of smart people In your family. Sometimes sending kids to school is the only option and it can works out ok. my wife went to school and she's good:D But if I have the opportunity to home school them in going to take it. Theres other reason why I favor home schooled to. That's terrible that you were a single parent. Times can be tough. :(. Don't get discharged.. Someone I knew always said you have to inherent a farm. I almost believed him but I kept trying. Until I was able to afford farm land on my own budget.:D

Merry Christmas Day all!

and need to be allowed the opportunity to progress at their own pace, instead of all students being constrained to a pace designed for the mean.
Yep. DW finished 3rd grade math in 2nd grade. Teacher had no problem with her working at her pace in a subject she was very good at. DW is also an excellent reader.

3rd grade teacher was having none of it. DW ended up skipping 3rd grade. This was back in the late 60's. Of course 3rd grade is where we used to learn cursive (not sure they even teach it in many places now) and her cursive writing doesn't match up to that of most women - who for some reason always seem to have better cursive than most men.

Good morning and Merry Christmas to everyone. Have a great day.
