The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Glad your finger isn't as bad as you'd thought @Blooie and that Steve came through his surgery ok. Hopefully you'll both recover quickly. :hugs

It is so humid here. It's cloudy but it doesn't look like it's going to dump any rain on us. We had enough to briefly wet the ground this morning.

We have 18 very busy little pooping monsters now. I'm hoping the remaining eggs don't take too long to hatch, but with the first lot being very early it could be the end of the week before the last lot I added decide to join us. Technically today was 'hatch day'.

That's a whole lot of little birds bopping around! Do you keep them all or sell them?

Because our adult quail are at least 2 years old I wasn't expecting so many eggs to develop, which is why I kept adding a few more, and then a few more just to be sure we had a reasonable group hatch out because you do not want a lone baby quail - they are very high maintenance. We've never hatched out so many at once. (There are still 15 good eggs in the incubator and I am kinda hoping some of those decide it's not worth the effort).

You'd have to negotiate with my DD for those babies! I'm so hoping there are lots of girls, especially amongst her favourites. I'd like to get brave and eat the boys we don't want to keep, but we'll see. I'm sure spare girls can be sold. Not sure they'd make it all the way to the USA (and I don't even want to think about the paperworks and the hoops you'd have to jump through)!

I'm going to have to clean them out soon, and find them a bigger brooder. I've got big indoor rabbit cages that are good for that, so I'll move them into one of those once I know everyone is eating and drinking well.

I wouldn't have the heart to try to take any of them away from your DD, I know how much she loves having the little birds around.

You'll have to let us know how many total you end up with (I can just picture them taking over your entire house  ).

That is how you get your birds! Once DD is buried in them, she won't be able to see you sneaking a few out.

Aaaaand, in our “Who’s Surprised?” department, I-80 is closed in both directions from Rock Springs to Rawlins after a multi-vehicle accident under hazardous driving conditions. Estimates are that up to 50 vehicles could be involved, mostly 18 wheelers and other heavy trucks.

For crying out loud.....
Our son just barely missed that huge pileup! He drives truck..18 wheeler. Glad he wasn't one of the many that pilled up on top of poor little cars. 😟 I read there were 4 deaths.
