I recently read that the reason people didn't smile in the early photos was how long one had to hold the pose since the exposure took a fair bit of time. NO moving. Easier to do in a staid fashion I guess.

Exactly, I can't sit still for long let alone stand, I would have looked awful.

Interesting thing about living here. I can see Casper Mountain from our house and you know when it's suddenly hidden by foggy looking clouds that the snow is rolling in.

No, but I like to look. Rural King had a chick disaster where they lost a whole chick order of 300 chicks that were dead by the time the post office delivered them.
