The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Just one last push, Debby and you are in the clear for a few months

Hi to you too Chris, hope your day goes well.

DH took all 5 cats to the vet for their usual check up yesterday...all are doing well. They won't be feeling quite so chipper after next month's vet visit...it will be time for neutering. That's going to be painful for us too (fee-wise) but at least we won't have to worry about hordes of kittens roaming the country side.

Time to get ready for work. All those teenage golfers coming today for their tournament and lunch...I'm already looking forward to them leaving, lol. Sunday we're having the United Way tournament then that should be the last event of the season.

Have I mentioned how much I'm looking forward to October?

Have a good Tuesday everyone!

You guys have had an amazing first season and you should be really proud! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Good morning!

Got some exciting news yesterday...my oldest son is coming to WY for a visit! First he'll spend a couple of days with my mom & nephew then DH & I'll meet up with him on the 25th (his birthday!) and he'll stay with us for a bit. It will be so much fun getting a chance to show him around. Talk about a good motivator to get some stuff done around the house, I have to get a room ready for him.

Regarding my nephew, there still isn't anything to report back about that "shadow" in his throat. He's had a lot of tests done and some results are due back by the end of this week.

Yesterday's JV tournament went very well. There were about 35 kids (9th & 10th graders) plus coaches from their 5 schools that came. It was great to see so many young people enjoying the golf course and they were soooo well behaved. We fired up the huge outdoor grill by the picnic pavilion and fixed hamburgers & hot dogs for their lunch (wow, kids that age can EAT). I patrolled the area after they left and there was not one single piece of trash left behind anywhere. Great group of kids, I totally enjoyed having them and the coaches are already talking about being back next year.

Friday & DMC, thank you!

Phil, October is when we close the course for the season. The specific date is somewhat weather-dependent but somewhere between the middle & end of October we'll be closing and start the winterizing processes. And when all that's done, I'm going to bed for my winter hibernation, lol!

Enough of my rambling...hope you all have a super day!

Hi everyone

It's good that you have some good news to share, Debby! I'm sure that the spare room will be ship-shape before you can say "Jack Robinson"! Great to hear that kids were well mannered - sometimes, I think we underestimate them (other-times, certainly not) but its always good to hear positive things about the whipper-snappers.

Enjoy the rest of your day, all!

Well Chris, I've said "Jack Robinson" at least 50 times now and the room is still a mess.

Any other suggestions?

Oh yeah, good morning everyone!

Debby, so glad the season has gone so well for you. Hate to brag, but I think you'll find most middle and high school kids here are a little different. If they see you carrying a package from the post office to the car, they'll stop what they're doing and come help. They'll wait by the doors for you for a minute to allow you to go through - and hold the door. "Please" and "Thank You" are used as freely here as the F-bomb is in other places I've been to. A few years ago some delinquents were running around egging cars. Some of the Cowley kids knew who did it, turned them in, then went door to door rounding them up. They stood watch while the kids they caught washed each and every car they'd egged the night before. They aren't afraid of hard work, they do their best in all they take on, and for the most part are courteous and conscientious. Now, I'm sure that's more true of many more kids all across the country than the media and social sites would have us think, but the JV behavior during the tournaments at your golf course wasn't the exception - it's just how they are. The tough ranch life most of them live, growing up with the isolation of most areas around here, plus discipline, pride and a strong moral compass will get them where they want to be faster than having everything handed to them on a platter, and they learn that early. There are always a few exceptions, but I wasn't a bit surprised to read how great the golf teams were when they were at your club.

We need lots of photos when your son comes to visit!! Ken and I almost dropped in on the 3rd of this month, but the clock was getting away from us. We had to go to Laramie to do a Masonic Cornerstone ceremony for the new high school there, so we took the scenic way, spent the night in Riverton the night before, then headed across the gas hills down to where we could catch I-80 and head east. We drove right past Sinclair. As it was, we made it with only 20 minutes to spare. Next time, maybe! I did snap a couple of photos of your area as we zoomed by between semi-trucks!
