The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I have been looking at those My Pillows for sometime.  I have tried every pillow out there (I even tried making my own) since my botched neck fusion surgery in 2006 and am getting more than a little tired of waking up with these headaches. I have foam, down, imitation down, water pillows, memory foam, "natural green" (whatever the heck that is supposed to be) even buckwheat and those little bead thingies.  I have this giant triangle shaped thing that was recommended by my physical therapist. After a nerve conduction study, MRI, and other tests by the neurologist I went to for help after the surgery, he did cycles of botox injections in my head, neck and upper shoulders for 2 years, and prescribed muscle relaxers.  That helped a little. He was so mad at the guy who butchered my fusion he would just stand there and shake his head when he was working on me, mumbling something like, "He should be living like this, not you."   The surgeon who did my neck surgery, Dr. John Schneider, ended up being sued a few years later by a ton of people for the same issues after one of his patient's died and then after he pulled some legal shenanigans to defraud the bankruptcy courts he lost his license to practice.  He also ran a campaign through the mail to totally discredit a fellow orthopedic surgeon.  Nice guy.  I can sure pick 'em.

It's not an exaggeration to say that the headaches are my companions every single morning - except when we have events and stay at the Holiday Inn.  There I grab the "soft" pillow and sleep well all night long.  Ken was going to see if he could find them online but it's something we keep forgetting to do.  I did look for them briefly one morning when the headache got me up at 4:30 am again, but most of the things I found said, "LIKE the Holiday Inn pillow."  Um, no. I may have to rip one off next weekend in Riverton and pay the fine!  :he

I hesitated on the My Pillow because of all the mixed reviews.  People either love them or hate them and there's no middle ground.  I heard all the hype about the owner being the founder of the National Sleep Foundation, but it was in existence long before this pillow was developed and was started by a professor, so that's garbage. Recently My Pillow went from an A+ Better Business Bureau score to an F in Minnesota because of his "by one get one free" offer, but that had nothing to do with the pillow itself.  So I don't know what to think.  I hate to waste money on another pillow, but I also hate the idea that there might be a good night's sleep out there and pass it up, too.

Ask them if they can order one for you...can't hurt!

I would prefer to use my dog as a pillow, but the WWD has a firm rule about no dogs on the bed.....And she has always blamed me and not the dog when she has found them there.... She blames me for everything no matter how innocent I am!

Ralph and innocent do not belong in the same sentence

Yep, that is what he says. But then the rumors started circulating that he got that endorsement only because he started the National Sleep Foundation, which of course he didn't. Once those rumors get started, it's very difficult to squelch them. HOWEVER, the disclaimer on the NSF home site says that they don't have or take the time to endorse or test products....so what endorsement is he talking about? See, it gets so muddy!

I asked the Holiday Inn last time we stayed there...all they would tell me was that "similar pillows are available through different on-line sources." So it looks like a life of crime is in my future. Rather that than wake up like this every day for another 11 years. <sigh
Bet for sure they got some kickbacks.

IMO pillow comfort is a very individual thing - and the effect of the mattress on the pillow comfort is major. Even at any hotel - I have to pick several and toss most on the floor to find one that is acceptable.

Before DH had his neck surgery, he had to sleep on a pair of folded up jeans when we stayed at motel/hotels

For me, I only like the molded foam type - went thru dozens over the years when my childhood pillow literally fell to pieces. And bought this one at a mattress place - I tried out their pillows OMG laying on their beds and had to go back for a different one after trying it out at home.

If you prefer goose/down pillows - there's a small family business in South Carolina that makes them at a reasonable cost, and even lower cost for a really great synthetic type that sleeps like down - and don't flatten out like most do. Harris Pillow Company.

If you prefer foam types - I found some amazing ones years ago at Kmart or Walmart for only $5 !! was so sad when they wore out.

Plan A: try folding towels/quilts or clothing items and find the right height you need and then search for a pillow to match that effect
Plan B : wear a maternity top and stay at the Holiday Inn..

Yes, he did. And when I mentioned this morning's conversation, he said he knew right up front it wasn't a true BOGO but he didn't really care. We've both been pleased with the pillows so if it saves us buying lots of different ones to find something comfortable, its a savings in the long run.

Speaking of giraffes .. not sure if I have told you guys this one … I am a huge animal lover and when I get the television to myself, I love nothing better than watching Animal Planet and Nat Geo etc.

This one particular day, after watching some of my shows I mentioned to hubby that I was off to do some shopping and he says “Do not bring home any animals!”. My reply was “Like what?” and he says “Oh, I don’t know, a giraffe!” Look who came home with me that day
