The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Yeah, I am researching as much as I can about chronic kidney disease in cats now, but 3 weeks ago I knew nothing.

Syba and Chimee used to get one wet meal of an evening and had biccies available 24/7 but now Syba gets a soup for breakfast, a broth for lunch and a more meaty wet meal in the evening. Additional water containers are around the house to encourage him to drink more.

After the 'stable' blood tests he will probably have to switch to a prescription kidney diet but for now the Specialist was more interested in getting some weight back on him as he dropped rapidly from just over 7kgs [16lbs] to 5kgs [11lbs]; luckily he is a big cat.

I am not sure if I will ever be able to cuddle him again and not get angry with the first vet we took him to. Each and every day we have with him now is a blessing and the fact that we still have him is kind of surreal. It irks me that the Vet was so adament that we euthanize him and here he is now, happily curled up on my lap while I type.

I can not stress enough that we know our pets better than anyone else and if you are certain that they have not given up, do not give up on them. I can not thank the Specialist enough and his believing in Syba and us and organising the surgery gave Syba the extra time he needed to pass the stone on his own. The Specialist was as excited as we were that it happened and mentioned that he had never seen a cat do that before with just medical treatment..our special little superhero!
Glad you didn't give up on him too. Always trust your gut, not the guy in front of you.

Some cats can be super finicky about having clean crisp water. I see all kinds of fountains and filtered water for them. I know lots of people need to keep a faucet running for the cat too.

You definitely love and take good care of your cat's.

Don't worry Debby - it's Saturday here. :D

Love hearing about all the cats! Keep it coming I say! It balances out all my bird chat.

Well, I listed the cockatiel chicks for sale yesterday as the older ones will be weaned soon, and I've already had people very interested in 4 of them, 5 if you count the one we twisted DH's arm about because she's just too pretty and we have to keep her (how was that not going to happen?)! I'll try and get a good photo of her today as the only photo I have she has a very wet face. We've called her Dottie and we know she's a girl as the pearl pattern on her wings is sex linked. The breeder almost took her back as he'd initially thought it was a boy (it's feathers hadn't opened up enough when he dropped them off to us). But he decided not to in the end so that worked out well. The breeder also has a few more for me to raise.

I found the rat hole under my quail so it temporarily has a heavy piece of wood over it with the waterer on top. The run is up on pallets with wire over them so they've found a gap big enough in the slats and chewed through the wire. I've also found two places where they've tried to chew through the hardware cloth and they've broken about 11 wires I think I counted up. I'm amazed they haven't broken their teeth!

Our weather is changing quickly today. Sunny and clear this morning, almost balmy. Clouds are moving in fast and dark. And the wind! Oh my gosh...never lived anywhere as windy as WY, it's crazy!

The girls aren't much enjoying the wind ruffling their feathers but they're healthy and laying so guess they're ok.

Today started out on the cool side and is going up to 90 for a high. Tomorrow will be the same and then we should go back down in temperatures for next week
