I just went out and sanded a board for a sign. The third one for the package to Canada. They will probably get it by spring!
I went and bought more bulbs today, 40% off. Now i have enough to fill the raised beds. And i bought 12 bags of mulch.
Bought a roll of field fence and 25 t posts. And more paint. And winter wheat seed.

I sow winter rye grass and winter peas in the pasture....I sowed some crimson clover back about 3yrs ago.....for the goats and birds. The goats area is coming up pretty good, but down where the ducks roam it is a bit scarce.........guess they have gotten an early start on their end, but I will have plenty for them to get....I'll just have to cut it and take it to them.....

Is it hard to plant that stuff or can you just like toss the seed? Been thinking about planting some clover or grasses/wheat. Or maybe some wild flowers.

I've read about fodder and it seems easy enough but idk, I'd rather not deal with trays and indoor stuff hah maybe I'm lazy.

Btw took Gator on a walk tonight which he loves but he has now decided he wants to take breaks on our walks, which I am fine with. I used to think he was being a brat or obstinate or whatever, which he maybe used to be when he was younger, mostly when he didn't want to go home, so I would try to force him and drag him up or whatever which would make him fight harder. Well now as of the other night and tonight (we didnt go last night), he stops and I'm just lile what? You wanna take a break? Okay, we can take a break. And he will just sit there (or lie down) for maybe 5 minutes and then when he decides he's done, he will just get up and start walking again on his own. It's the funniest thing. He usually does it after we sniff all the new stuff and are about to go home. I guess he wants to stop and recharge before we go home. Like I said, I used to force it, but he is 5, about to be 6 in March, which I think is older for a dog his size, and he has bad hips and I think a possible ACL injury plus his nails desperately need to be trimmed (we need to take him in or muzzle him soon), so I figure, if he is sore or in pain or even just plain tired (we normally don't do walks till lately), why not let him rest? Being a jerk and trying to be so in control and drag him home or bribe him or whatever doesn't get us anywhere and frankly I don't see the point. SO. We sit for 5 minutes (or more or less depending on the night) and then we continue. And frankly I get kind of tired too LOL

Anyway, here are some pictures from the other night and tonight. He also found a squirrel the other night. Wouldn't drop it so I made him carry it home thinking he'd get sick of carrying it. Nope, he was proud if anything. Lol at home, took us 20 minutes, some growls, and some steak, but we won that battle. Bur he would try to pick up the steak while holding the squirrel lol we had to get bigger pieces to make it worth it. But I guess finally he got sick of fighting and wanted the steak bad enough he let go long enough to drag him away.

Normally he doesn't growl and is a great boy, he listens so well these days but there was just no way he was letting go of a whole dead squirrel haha our old Lab used to catch them and eat them whole.... it was GROSS. But with it already being dead (even though it was probably frozen), who knows what diseases it has. Thankfully we won that battle.

The rye grass, winter peas, clover, rye grain, and winter wheat can be sown....or hand-tossed....and it will take root and grow. I have no experience with fodder, so sure can't help ya with that. Depending on the animals that is being targeted with the sowings will determine at what rate and ratios should be used. There are many grazing animals that can become ill if they are given an abundance of clover....it causes bloat in many and can be problematic if too much is present in the grazing pasture.....I don't think it causes any problems for birds or rabbits.....

Thanks for all the info! I think the fodder thing is grown inside in trays which I guess is nice if you don't have much room but I'd rather just grow it outside hah tbh I was thinking of growing some for the deer or I might plant some in the backyard near the chickens (they have free range of the whole property when I let them out, which i haven't since the attack, but they tend to stay in the back close to the coop). But I'm not sure my parents would appreciate the jungle look in the area we just mowed down and mulched lol or I suppose I could plant it elsewhere and just cut it for them? I don't want to attract ticks anyway I suppose. Do deer get bloat from clover? I don't want to accidentally harm them!! They are beautiful.

Deer will regulate their selves, but they will eat the ryegrass and winter peas very readily and frequent the area quite often. You can throw the ryegrass out on top of other grasses and it will grow during winter and spring....it dies in hot temps and doesn't reseed, so it isn't like planting regular grass....it has to be sown each year for it to grow.

I always rake the area to rough up the soil and spread some manure over top. Just about anything requires effort to do it correctly, dear. And if you fail to cover the seed, birds may eat it.

Awww, Gator is gorgeous! Love the photos! Sounds like he just needs a moment to collect his thoughts before heading for home. Funny boy.
