The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Oh yeah? Oh YEAH??? Well, Smarty Pants, I'm going to mow too. In July. When the snow melts. So there! :lau

:lau

Tee hee .. trust me, I am trying to talk myself out of it BUT we have rain predicted next weekend and while it technically does not need doing today, if I do not, I probably won’t be able to on the weekend and then the following weekend it will definitely need it!

They reckon you should start the new year how you intend to continue it .. looks like 2018 will be the year of mowing :lau

HAPPY NEW YEAR Friends! :hugs 07:45AM Monday 1st January 2018 :celebrate

Predicted maximum of 97F today … hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to mow I go; before it gets too hot!
Lol. Sounds unreal. 97 degrees and mowing. I'm looking at about 15 in Texas of all places. And so many others are making me ashamed to complain, they're so cold. :)

Oh oh! I'm in big doo-doo then. It's not even 2018 and January has 3 medical appointments and two tests coming up for me. PLEASE tell me it ain't so.....

Good plan because most apples need another tree "nearby" to bear fruit.

If -18°F is your high for the day, maybe dinner out should wait for a warmer day, say when it gets up to 0°F

The last time I was in S.D. would have had to be in a former life!
We went to Walmart.. holy crap so cold. I told hubby it’s grilled cheese and soup from a can for supper.

My son and I love the Pillsbury Cheesecake brownies. I've had plenty of "free form" cakes like you Kdogg I believe they have less calories. Just like broken cookies - no cals.

I'll have to try that! and lol true

Ooh, chislic is a staple of the Sioux Falls area of South Dakota. It's such a regional dish that if you travel 100 miles outside of SF in any direction you probably won't find it, but almost all bars, many restaurants, (and even the local Dairy Queens for a long time) have it. It's similar to a fondue, but it's small pieces of mutton, venison (my preference) or beef. You toss the pieces into a hot skillet of oil, let it cook for a few minutes, then take it out and sprinkle it liberally with coarse salt. Eaten while enjoying a tall, cold beer, I kinda like to think that's what Heaven serves at least once a week! Love me some chislic 'n' beer. Some folks mess it up by overcooking it, or serving with barbecue sauce, garlic salt, or other nonsense, but just plain salt is perfect. This is how it came last time I ordered it, and I have to admit I'm not as fond of it in strips as I am little chunks, and I don't need or want all the fru-fru extras like fries and toast and stuff. Just the meat, salt and a beer.

And Pig Cheeks are actually the temple meat of a pig, not truly "pig cheeks". They are a bit chewy, but they pack more pork flavor per bite than any other cut of pork. We serve them seasoned, floured and fried with mashed taters, milk gravy made with the pan drippings, and corn. Always. It's how I grew up on them. Ma could buy 4-5 packs of them for next to nothing and feed all 7 of us, and we loved them! We all still do, my kids do, and my grandkids do. The only place I can get them is when we got back, again, to Sioux Falls. We always take an empty cooler, pick up a package of dry ice for it, then pack that cooler as tightly as we can with package after package of pig cheeks. When we get home some packs go to Kenny, some to Tam, and the rest are hoarded in my freezer.

Happy New Year @JaeG and @Teila !!

Looks to be something that couldn't possibly be easier to make. Cut meat small, fry meat fast, cool a bit, add some "spices" and eat.

Do you have other apple tree varieties or are there some nearby?

Only 98°F, may be time for another log!

DD1 told me yesterday that it is DC2's (*) 11th BDay on the 30th, same day as @Teila !

Dear Cat :gig#2, like #1, came from the Humane Society at (assumed) 5 Y/O, except 5 years later.

sounds like SF has some interesting foods! that one from the resteraunt almost looks just like steak tips? So I can see why you prefer the smaller pieces - totally different dish. I would have gladly eaten the fries though. although it would be better if they were sweet potato. :p

I don't think I could eat any of that though. Maybe the chislic but def not pig cheeks hah it does look delicious though and I love potatoes but I couldn't get past the pig cheek thing I think. Maybe if you didn't tell me ha

OK, but next time, get real beer ;)

true ha though I don't drink anyway

Happy birthday to your sister!!!
Now, if you'll all excuse me, my taste buds are telling me it's time for a quick run to Sioux Falls!

I wish SF was closer and not across the country

Looks good to Me!

thanks ron!!

Happy New Year everybody!
It's 1 AM here in Germany so we're already past the fireworks ;)
What I have seen from BYC so far is a bunch of respectful and friendly people (truthfully wouldn't expect anything else from people with a heart for chickens!) and I'm glad to have found this place.

:hugs
Happy New year Wolfgang!
