Many years ago, when I was trying to reconcile FDA/USDA/CDC recommendations against books written many years earlier, I found a chart that talked to different food borne bacteria and the temps that they die... It was hugely complex, but in the end I want to say that 150*-175* killed most everything. Clostridium botulinum spores die around 220* and is why we pressure can at 240* as the toxin grows in an anaerobic environment (aka a can).

I don’t think so!Sheesh! Look at you guys GO! Number-of-post milestones, "like" milestones......could you all just wait a bit and let me catch up?
Those quail are so doggone cute, and I know how tiny they are! In Sioux Falls they have a big, gorgeous Butterfly House...I think it's called the Sertoma Butterfly House. Evan's other grandparents have been volunteers there for years, and when Evan goes back for the summers he volunteers there too. He remembers what it was like to be so afraid when the butterflies would land on him or hover in front of his face, so now his job is to take kids on tours, and he does it well! They have button quail living in the Butterfly House, and they are more or less allowed to just do their thing naturally. When the chicks hatch, a lot of the butterflies are bigger than they are! Um, but you do have to watch your step!
That's quite a burger! Looks delicious. You MAKE your own buns? Shoot, not this cookie! Way too much work for me! I grew up with my burgers served on white bread, and still prefer them that way! The first time I ever saw a burger served on a bun was when the first McDonald's opened in Sioux Falls - I think that was in 1961 or 62 so I would have been 11 or 12.
45 degrees and rained all day yesterday. <sigh> And then it froze and snowed on top of the ice. Tam had a dickens of a time getting to work - the hospital/care center is located on a hill above the town of Lovell, so no matter which street you take you have to drive up and then back down those hills. I waited and waited for her to text me and tell me she'd made it. Lovell is 6 miles from here - took her 45 minutes to get to work. Then I was up early waiting for her to text me and tell me she made it home. I'd feel a lot better if she wasn't driving an old clunker with bad tires and wasn't coming home on that crap after a 12 hour overnight shift. Do they ever reach an age where we stop worrying?
Nightmare is right, holy crap!Evening Friends
Just popped in on my way to do my greets.
Aw gees Jae I hope you get your brooder woes sorted in time
N F C Thank You! I love Ta-Da! Nice to see him again!
Go Ken!
Jae I hear ya and will mini vent myself .. when I comment with ‘what I do’ and that I respect others may do it differently, I now do not follow the thread. I have shared my opinion and then I drop out unless I am alerted that I have been quoted directly. I get a little frustrated reading all the ‘why you should not do that’, ‘why what I said is apparently wrong’ and ‘my way or the highway’
Anyways, just saw this on FB .. definitely nightmare material!I do believe that is a broom head it is hanging on to.

I get 0-2 eggs a day. I bought a dozen white eggs last week and that about killed me...they don’t carry good ones in town. I went to Walmart yesterday and bought an 18ct cage free carton. They had regular white eggs for .70 cents for an 18 count...I payed a little over $3 for the cage-free but they are worth it.@sunflour love the rooster sitting on top of the pole! Congrats on the (maybe) new egg layer. It's been so long since my girls have laid, I think I'll consider them all new egg layers when/if they start up again.
A few years back we had several car wrecks knock down power poles during an ice storm. Our neighborhood went for two weeks without power. Folks were complaining that their food in the freezer and fridge were going bad... I buried my coolers in the snow and transferred everything from to the freezers to the coolers. I had a cooler on my deck for my refrigerated stuff. No problem. I spent years hunting and camping and you learn to use what nature gives you.I'm lucky this time of year... if I leave it out it just freezes.
2-3 is accurate...shop cat was brought in due to the very cold weather(by hubby)and he has not brought him back out yet.Cats? Did someone say cats? View attachment 1242665
@Michelle Farmer-Brown I have 3 housecats and DH has 3 golf course cats (mousers). @sunflour has a cat named Buddy and he bakes gingerbread houses (and wins contests with them). @sourland has a former feral that has adopted him. @bruceha2000 has a whole herd of cats (but he says they belong to the females in his house). @Teila has 2 cats (one of them has a mustache). @DigMyChicks has 2? 3? (not sure, but one has the same name as one of mine, Opie). @rjohns39 you have a cat too, don't you? @CapricornFarm has cats.
Lots of cats around here!
I did the same thing a couple weeks ago but with chicken noodle soup. I chanced it and we ate it and we did not die.@bruceha2000 You must officially suspend my punishment! I got the notion that he couldn't fix it from him, when he came home after almost two hours, sadly shaking his head and saying, "There is no fix for this mess - nothing I can do for them." So HA! HE was the source! Um, but then he poked around on his computer trying to find the parts anyway, dragged out some paper and a pencil, and designed a replacement part! I spent most the day over there snuggling Kendra, who has the wuzwels anyway. Jen was going to bring the girls over here, but Katie had a birthday party and Kendra wasn't feeling well, Jenny was helping the guys by running out for new furnace filters, making phone calls to try to get someone out there, and general putzing. So it was easier to go over there than drag the girls over.
I did a stoopid yesterday. I started chili early in the morning, before the Great Heat Disaster of 2018 started. So we ate some of it last night, and I intended on putting the rest of it in freezer bags to vacuum seal and freeze to have on hand later. So I let it cool first. Too long. I woke up this morning and it was still sitting on the counter. I've never done that before - I usually let it cool a bit so that when I put it in the fridge it doesn't bring the temp of the fridge up, then bag and freeze it the next morning. But I was so tired with all the fussing yesterday that I crashed and forgot it. Now I have an entire pot of chili that I have to pitch. Grrrrrrr Stoopid, stoopid!
That is NOT a spider I'd want to find anywhere near this place!! <shudder> That thing could carry off a small child! <double shudder>
@JaeG There have been people on the thread who were able to use MHP quite successfully for quail, but there are also others that it just didn't work for. Sounds like you've got your heat issue resolved, and if it works for you, then go for it! You have been doing the quail thing a long time and there's a good chance you know what you're doing by now!
Sour, congrats on the Wellie egg! The run is looking great - love the big "pole" in the center!
Debby, I know the feeling.....I rehomed my chickens in August so the last fresh eggs I've had were in September....last of the eggs they'd given me. I've been buying eggs since then..... I could just go over and get some from Jim and Cindy, the people who have my girls, but they haven't had that many with the winter doldrums striking their flock too. It's not so bad - I bought eggs before I ever got chickens and I can do it now.
I know I missed some posts....but then I missed some chili too so it's par for the course. (pun intended, Debby!)
2-3 is accurate...shop cat was brought in due to the very cold weather(by hubby)and he has not brought him back out yet.2 strays outside also that we feed but can’t tame...5 total!
