Aaaw, thank you Diva .. tip number 1. DO NOT garden on days like today!

Feeling decidedly like I might have got too much sun .. I wore my big hat and drank lots of water but not sure I put in more than what I lost Walking in to the decorative trim on the underneath of the house did not help matters and now my head hurts and has a nice egg sized lump!

LOL! I wish it was, then I would have an excuse! Sadly, just me forgetting about the trim and walking right in to it!

You can see it in this image .. all the underneath of the house is trimmed with that white timber, so if you do not walk out in the center of the section, head goes bang in to timber!

That's the only thing about wearing a hat - you lose all sense of where the top of your head is! (Or had you taken it off)? Poor you! Hope the bump disappears quickly.

Your pond is looking beautiful. You'll need tropical fish for sure. I don't think goldfish could stand the heat!

I had to laugh at the 'humadity' - boy, ain't that the truth! It was actually rather nice being in the air conditioned car today, but every time we got our it was like a hot, wet hug. It's exhausting! We took the kids for a swim this afternoon which did help. For awhile!

I'll try and get a decent photo of our new bourke, but it's night now. He's very sweet and our Ruby is very happy to have a friend. We got two female button quail from the lady as well - a cinnamon and a silver. More genetic diversity. She had gorgeous yellow turquoisines but we really don't have the space at the moment.

Did you hear the predictions that the Cyclone in the Coral Sea which they say will not be a threat to Queensland might affect NZ? I mentioned it to Hubby this morning and that we are probably not going to be affected and then he mentioned after lunch that it was predicted to head towards NZ

Did you hear the predictions that the Cyclone in the Coral Sea which they say will not be a threat to Queensland might affect NZ? I mentioned it to Hubby this morning and that we are probably not going to be affected and then he mentioned after lunch that it was predicted to head towards NZ

They were thinking it's heading this way and it's supposed to coincide with king tides which won't be good for some low lying places. They've been hit once in the last storm with flooding on the beach front not far from us because of king tides. Our little town is higher up so we are in no danger.

We are such a tiny spit of land (especially Auckland) that it's hard to predict how the weather will go, but we are getting no southerly flows from Antarctica to cool us down which is why we are sweltering under a heat wave across the whole country. We should be ok where we are (as long as the neighbours enormous gum trees don't decide to fall down, not that they'd reach our house but they might squish my chicken coop) as we are pretty sheltered.

It's true about the hat thing - you just can't sense where the top of your head is. I hate wearing a hat for that reason - I'm bound to whack it on something!

Good Evening Friends

at Bruce mowing once a week is enough for moi! I cheated today and did not do the edging, just gave the lawn a trim. It is looking really good now in places, nice and green and not so thin; mow, water, mow, water repeat

Before mowing I saved a couple of plants which seem determined to grow through the lawn and popped them in pots. After the mowing I killed some weeds and then evicted hundreds more baby palms; unfortunately my ‘make your own weed killer’ does not work on them and they need to be pulled out.

Then hubby and I got stuck in to the ponds. Hubby is happy with the fluid dynamics and filter set up. I am reasonably happy with the aesthetics but, of course, I will be adding more plants New water and some hidey hole ornaments added, so now we just run it for a week for final testing [eg. pump and filter working OK, no leaks and not too much sun (we have a Plan B if there is)] and fingers crossed, next weekend, water plants and fishies!

I'm not normally a hat person though when wearing one I have occasionally managed to stop or lessen the impact because the hat touches first and gives an early warning of impending pain.
