German Shepherds have lots of energy!!! Beautiful dogs but they need attention.
Oh yeah no I know, Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that GSDs don't need exercise or were lazy. They definitely do and definitely aren't!
I just meant that like in comparison to a Malinois, once they get that exercise and training/mental stimulation, which they definitely still need and lots of it, they usually can chill and sleep. At least some of them. Whereas Mals and some other breeds can get worked and you think they're tired but then they can just take a quick nap and want to work or play again! Lol it's more constant and in your face.
That's just from what I've heard. Idk how true it is.
And of course that said, there are lazy Mals (lazy being a relative term lol) and there are crazy GSDs with no off switch. But theoretically, from my research into the various lines, a well bred good one should have an off switch. And of course good nerves and everything too and not be too hard or soft of a dog. But that's all theoretical and different breeders breed for different traits and everything.
And of course working lines are more intense and energetic than show lines.
Yeah, I need a dog that can chill, and even though our Honey is always ready to play and would fetch a ball all day, when she's inside on her bed she's chilled out/sleeping. Maybe you could adopt an ex racing grey hound? They are lovely, lazy dogs. There are a couple of places here that rehome them but the adoption fee is quite a bit. I never realised how huge they are (never having seen grey hounds racing other than on the tv) until we saw one at the off leash park up the road one day.
It's raining here and it's going to keep on raining for at least the next two days. I still need to go collect eggs and give the chickens their evening snack which isn't fun in the wet. I've been baking cakes all day as it's our son's 7th birthday tomorrow. I'm making a red dragon cake! Wish me luck!
Yeah, me too. I don't want a dog that is always up and needing to do something. Or always bored. Etc.
And it's funny you say that, I actually looked into them before and had a phase where I was really into them lol
They do seem like great dogs but idk, they just look kind of weird to me and it'd be like petting bones. Which I know is slightly doggie prejudiced of me but still ha
Plus I do actually like training my dog and possibly doing tricks, obedience, or some sort of sport with. So I'd like it a little bit energetic/perky.
I just don't want a dog that HAS to have constant exercise and stimulation, you know?
And I know technically retrievers usually do too but they're more chill and I could maybe do indoor training or playing on bad days.
Good luck Jae!
Yeah, i could never keep this dog busy by myself. It takes the 2 of us to wear her out! She wants to play or run or something all day every day!
She sounds intense!
I hope you're going to share pics of the cake.
I had a greyhound briefly. He could counter surf without even having to stretch. I had a glass of water on the coffee table once... he wagged his tail and he sliced the glass clean in half.
Oh boy!
Gator can reach the counter with ease. He's around 30 inches, maybe plus or minus an inch. Hard to tell exactly with his mane lol and that's his withers. His head is obviously higher. Our counters are 3 feet tall. So yeah, it's effortless. Lol
