The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good Morning Friends :hugs

X2 on the greyhound adoption, my sister adopted one and he apparently sleeps a LOT! But, he is adorable and very loving.

Happy Birthday to your son Jae!

I hope your pig is OK Michelle :fl

Change of plans for today .. I am thinking I might try and clear some space under the house to make room for a heap of cr*p that is on the deck! Not sure how I am going to go and sadly, as much as I would like to toss most of it out, it is not mine, so I can’t do that but hopefully I can at least tidy it up a bit and make it not look so much like a hoarders haven ;)

That's true doesn't matter how big a yard you have - a dog alone will end up sitting by the door. Dogs are flock animals too except they think their humans are flock members. They want to know why you put them outside while you stay inside, probably eating behind their backs.

That makes sense. Gator definitely thinks of us as his flock. But he's also half Great Pyrenees so rather than having a flock of sheep or a herd of goats to look after, we are his charges lol plus the Lab half. So he loves being with us and also getting attention and stuff haha but he always has to be somewhere where he can keep an eye on stuff. Whether that's his bed in the hall which he LOVES lately, where he has a sightline to the front door and backyard, or downstairs on the couch with my dad while he works, etc. Or outside he only lays where he can see into the front yard and down the driveway.

Because his charges also include the cat and the chickens. :)

Cap I don't mind you telling experiences you'd had with Cockers. I mainly worked with show dogs and they are taught in the whelping pen that I will work on them, trimming faces etc. at 10 days. Pet dogs, mainly spoiled because their owners say the dog doesn't like this or that. Actually they are relieved to have an excuse. I tell them they have to be alpha. That doesn't mean hitting. It means keeping at it, until they realize resistance is futile.

I think the key to any dogs, no matter how you train or raise them or what you call it (because often times people are teaching the exact same behaviors but wont say so), is having consistent rules that the dog knows and has to follow. And that it listens to your commands, however you want to achieve that. I find that often people don't have any rules for the dog, never train it or take it to a class, never exercise it, never do anything with it, and then they wonder why it's crazy and off the walls or a spoiled brat lol

Aww he sounds cute

And lol hope you can get it cleanes up. Maybe you could ask him if you could throw some of it away?

We made a blanket of hay for him this morning. This evening he had moved out from under it and gave a little grunt when I checked on him. He wouldn't drink but at least checked it out. I never heard back from the person I called for help/info. The one person I did talk to told me to get him inside. My trailer has a 3 x 5 foot wide path and that's it for room. There's no way I could fit a 180 lb pig in here.

It might sound weird, but could you put a jacket on the pig?

I did that for goats before, took old jacket, cut back sleeves. Even zipped it up.
if you have B vitamins, give him a shot. Do you use drench? He might be tempted. I can tell you what i used for goats.
I gave him some worming meds. Evidently they get feverish if they've got worms really bad. He actually responded and swallowed it happily. I think I'll try giving him water that way if he's still around in the morning. I didn't try the jacket. My other pig loves chomping on clothing.
