Good Morning Friends :hugs

That is awesome to hear that the MHP is becoming so popular! :clap

Cap & Jae fingers crossed for lots of healthy, happy baby Quail! :fl

I am exhausted and have a sore throat; the working week is 9 hours old and I have addressed 103 helpdesk tickets :caf

Come on Easter and a 4 day break! :ya

Did someone mention tropical storms? We had some showers overnight and early this morning and today is predicted to get to 88F with an 80% chance of more showers and/or a tropical storm ;) 0% chance of snow :p

It definitely needs more quail pics! I think there's only been one so far.
I have a number of very cute quail, they are being raised for me by a friend in New Zealand, think I should enter their pictures? ;)

Cap should have some guinea chicks hatching too. They'd be a cute addition! It is a shame that chickens get all the glory sometimes.
Well ... this site IS named backyardCHICKENS.com :D

Come on Easter and a 4 day break! :ya
During which the developers will release functional "enhancements" with yet more newly broken code (that they didn't touch)??

It unquoted all my quotes again dang it!!!

Oh well.

Teila, it's okay!!!

Ron or whoever else said be careful of the cat, that's actually Libby believe it or not. Haha

As for broodies, I had a Buff Orpington that literally went broody at least 5 times last year. 4 just since April.

And in the fall before that.

A few times I let her sit for a few weeks thinking she would break but then I found out I needed to breaknher and made a cage. Just a dog crate with hardware cloth on the bottom.

She took maybe 2 or 3 days, she broke pretty fast usually.

Thankfully she was a really nice broody and never attacked me or anything. Occassionally protested when I took her off and puffed up/hissed but never bit and she let me take her off.

But she was also just a really friendly, gentle chicken to begin with.

She also never complained in the broody cagw or tried to flap about, escape, or anything like that. Let me out her in fine and just sat in there, walked around a bit, etc. Never protested. She even talked back to me when I sat and talked to her one time.

I lost her in the fall to what I think was a hawk. :( :hit

If she had gone broody again in the spring this year I was going to let her hatch chicks finally :(

And I hate shopping or at least I used to but it's funny, I like going by myself. Maybe it's cause my mom always takes hours and I'm ready to leave the store???? And I don't like wearing girly clothes.

But I go off by myself all the time and can be gone 3 hours! I waste so much time actually it's bad.

But I'll go, for instance, to the pet store (usually Petco as it's closer but sometimes Petsmart), Walmart, TSC, etc. And I go to Subway and spend at least an hour in there eating and being on my phone. Then I'll go walk around Walmart. Sometimes pet store. Etc. Etc.

And even though I go to the same stores all the time, I always find something new. I buy too much at Walmart usually and things I never knew I needed.

And the pet store I just like watching and looking at all the animals. TSC I like the chicks when they're in.

I go to Morrison's too.

But of course a lot of that 2 or 3 hours is me being on my phone in the car 15 mins or half an hour before and after going in or inside the store.

And I have an online shopping spending problem lol you can find ANYTHING.

And a band merch buying problem. Often online but also at shows

I live vicariously and talk others into buying.

I went to TSC on Saturday... Had to checkout the chicks, didn't buy any.... But I think we may have upset the young clerk... First, DW mentions that they have too many chicks in a couple of their tubs and THEN (I just couldn't help myself) as the clerk was extolling the virtues of the barred rock chicks, the lady and her daughter said we'd like the "yellow ones." Clerk declares minimum of six and the lady says fine... When the clerk went to get a box, I eased up on the lady and pointed out that the "Yellow ones" are CX and meant to be eaten after about 8 weeks. I thought her eyes were going to roll out of her head... When I pointed to the black and yellow birds and said they are likely the rocks, she decided they were ugly and they left the store.

Nope, never. I mentioned pasty butt a couple of times (and it was severe!) and the answer I got was "that's normal". I've told employees when the chicks are out of water and the bedding soaked. I've told them when there was a dead chick in the tank. I've had them try to tell me you have to have a rooster for the girls to lay eggs. I've had them tell me the breed of ducks they sold are "yellow".

And that's not all happening at just one store. I've met so many ill informed employees at farm stores, I don't think I could buy a live animal from any of them.

Oops, sorry. Rant over.

X2 on rant.... I have one lady who knows I buy chicken stuff.. She even remember I bought a couple bags of organic chicken grower (little does she know that I used that as a base for my duck starter). So she puts on the full court press that I should get some chicks. When I point out the issues with hers, including the dead ones she was unfazed. I ask her what they're eating and she points to Purina starter (not organic/non-GMO) as I explain that I have 2-3 generations of birds raised on pasture with non-GMO organically raised feed her response was that they've only been on it for a week or so.... So I go for the next tactic... What do you have that the conservancy considers Watch, threatened, or critical... Her response: "What's the conservancy?" After I explain it to her (mind you she's really nice), she immediately shifts over to the CX they have... "Well you can grow out some meat birds..." I ask what strain they are and what their parents were fed.... Her response in a huff was "you're just not interested in chickens are you?" One of the waiting customers looked at me and asked "you get chicks from a breeder who tells you what the parents were fed?" Yup, I use one of the breeders that Joel Salatin uses. His company puts about a 1000 birds in mobile coops on pasture to provide us pasture raised, non-GMO fed chicks. I say one of the breeders, because he's probably using a dozen or so now for CX and BBW. He orders 1000+chicks and poults at a time.

Sorry for all the tickets.... We're under a storm Watch now forecasting golf ball sized hail and tornadoes, but radar looks like it will miss us. Only time will tell.

Evening all... BTW, I think it was Michele great score on the wood.

Cap hope all goes well tomorrow

ron that cake looks amazing... The two loaves of wheat sandwich bread are on their second rise in the oven and the kitchen is off limits to all. I also need to look at that contest closer, but am running out of gas. DW had everything ready for me to make the bread when I got in from work today, so that was first task... Now, I'm really tired. Some days I think I miss the mental exhaustion that I used to have for the physical exhaustion that I have these days.

KD I a good friend of mine got into deep trouble with his DW.... He and his 4 year old son went shopping. In, got what was needed and out.... The inquisitive 4 yr old wanted to know why it was so quick??? So on a whim, Pat said that's the difference between "boy shopping" and "girls shopping." Now we all know that 4 year olds are like tape recorders... So a few weeks go by and mom asks the 4 yr old if he wants to go shopping. 4 yr old responds "only if we're doing "boy" shopping." Pat was in the dog house for weeks....
