The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

What I do is weekly sort by name and then delete the BYC notifications firs. I then go down alphabetically and delete all of the As I do not want. If I have time I will go to the Bs and etc.

It makes it all more manageable

The past couple of years things got so busy at the golf course, I figured I'd get to them "later". Who knew "later" meant about 2 years? And I can't see where I missed anything by not reading them.

I'm down to 11,000 think I'll take a break and tackle more "later". :cool:

Because of my work, email is very important! I have more work related contact via email than phone now. I get almost no snail mail at work now. It is a lot different from 22 years ago

I know how that goes, same happened where I worked for 33 years. What used to be handled with a quick phone call or just a walk to the office next door turned into one email, after another, after another. And sometimes you still had to talk face-to-face to get some clarification on what the other person was writing about.

That's where my anti-email attitude began :rolleyes:
 
I don't like chili or baked beans.
The recipe is for Bacon(like Ham) beans. Do you like those?

Perfect Old Fashioned Pinto Beans

Ingredients
  • 1 16 oz bag of pinto bean
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion - diced
  • 2 cloves garlic - minced
  • 4 slices of thick cut applewood smoked bacon
  • 1 tsp salt (less if you are sensitive)
  • 4 tsp chicken broth concentrate
  • 1 bay leaf
Instructions
  1. Rinse the bag of beans well and remove any that look like they are past their prime. If unsure - chuck it.
  2. Pour the beans into a large bowl and cover with at least 2 inches of water and allow to soak overnight. Alternately, you can boil the beans at a steady boil for about 10 minutes before you begin to cook them. Whether you soak or parboil, pour the water off from this step.
  3. In a six quart stock pot on medium heat, heat the olive oil and saute the onion and garlic until they smell really good and the pieces become translucent.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and add the beans, bacon, salt, chicken broth concentrate and one bay leaf and enough cool clean water to cover the beans by 2 inches. (If you are sensitive to salt, then you can always decrease the amount)

  5. Heat the beans on medium until they come to a light boil then reduce the heat to low.
  6. Stir the beans occasionally and don’t let them get to a strong boil. Cook until done. I tell doneness by tasting - you could also spoon some out and smash it in your fingers. If it is smashy- through and through - they are done.

This recipe is for simple old fashioned pinto beans with great flavor!

Absolutely!

It can be quite frustrating to do tech support that way. I have a Faculty couple teaching English abroad in England. One of them is having email issues that can't be fixed that way. Makes me wish I could use remote control software...Campus will not purchase a license for me though

Don't know, i generally avoid beans but thanks.
 
Memorial day started after the Civil war and was called Decoration day. It is to honor those that died while serving. Veterans day is for all veterans.

Many here do use the day to honor others that have died but that is not official.

I've always kind of felt like one day wasn't enough. So I remember and take a moment of silence on both days. The great thing about the jobs I've had for the last 20+ years is that if I make a bad decision, no one dies.

Back in the day when I was in charge.... I had a simple rule: If you can't solve it in three two to three sentence emails, then talk... you know, like face to face. The milinials (sp) called me archaic.

Ron, I was so thrilled when I could finally remote into the problem computer. Soooooo many times I gave instructions and knew they weren't following them.

Debby, if I leave my email for more than a day or two, I'll have hundreds to deal with, mostly spam. In my former life I did roughly 1000 emails per day for work.
 
Good Morning Friends

I have a filter set up on my personal In Box so all BYC and other ‘notification’ e.mails get automagically marked as read, bypass the in box and get popped in a folder.

I have some news! I know I mentioned that I was thinking of doing contract typing but have I mentioned that I have 19 years medical and radiology typing experience? I enjoyed that line of work and actually miss it. Well, I have submitted my resume to a transcription company who are evaluating me for inclusion on their medical audio transcription typing team. I have this morning applied for and received my Australian Business Number and have my registered business name in the system and it is pending approval.

So, I am a few steps further down the path to setting up my own business and being my own boss.

Just need to get a couple of pieces of hardware, foot pedal etc and I am good to go. If all goes well, I could be submitting my 4 weeks notice in a couple of weeks time!
