The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I swear. If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.
Haven't been able to get the trailer full of our stuff onto our land for almost 2 weeks now. Got truck and trailer stuck in mud right at our gate the first day. Had to drop the trailer at the neighbours. Truck got stuck in the mud yesterday down by the coop (have I mentioned that the chicken run is currently a lake?). Neighbour had to pull me out with a tractor. Finally started unloading the trailer into the truck and running it over to our storage trailer. On one of the trips to pick up more stuff the truck got stuck again. So, I started taking trips with the utv. It broke down (loud clanging and then it died when I started it up). So now not only is the trailer in my neighbour's yard, so is the utv.

Never tried that either!
I like this one. You can sub the Cinderella beans for the white beans

Olive Garden Minestrone Soup

Ingredients

2tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup minced white onions (about 1 small onion)
1/4 cup chopped zucchini
1/4 cup frozen cut Italian green beans
1/4 cup minced celery (about 1/2 stalk)
2 teaspoons minced garlic (about 2 cloves)
4 cups vegetable broth (Swanson is good *note: Do not use chicken broth!*)

1 (15 ounce)can red kidney beans , drained
1 (15 ounce)can small white beans or great northern beans , drained
1 /2 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1/2 cup carrots , julienned or shredded
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
1 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 1/2 cups hot water
3 cups fresh baby spinach
1/3 cup small shell pasta

Directions

Heat two tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat in a large soup pot.
Sauté onion, celery, garlic and green beans in the oil for 5 minutes or until onions begin to turn translucent.
Add vegetable broth to pot, plus drained tomatoes, beans, carrot, hot water, and spices.
Bring soup to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
Add spinach leaves, zucchini and pasta and cook for an additional 20 minutes or until desired consistency.
Makes about eight 1 1/2 cup servings.

Good Morning Friends

I have a filter set up on my personal In Box so all BYC and other ‘notification’ e.mails get automagically marked as read, bypass the in box and get popped in a folder.

I have some news! I know I mentioned that I was thinking of doing contract typing but have I mentioned that I have 19 years medical and radiology typing experience? I enjoyed that line of work and actually miss it. Well, I have submitted my resume to a transcription company who are evaluating me for inclusion on their medical audio transcription typing team. I have this morning applied for and received my Australian Business Number and have my registered business name in the system and it is pending approval.

So, I am a few steps further down the path to setting up my own business and being my own boss.

Just need to get a couple of pieces of hardware, foot pedal etc and I am good to go. If all goes well, I could be submitting my 4 weeks notice in a couple of weeks time!

How exciting! That all sounds very promising! :woot

It always makes me laugh when people are so serious about 'lockdown' when incubating eggs. When we let our bantams hatch eggs they both got off while the chicks were pipping for a quick break. My little quail was doing exactly the same thing this afternoon - pipping eggs... time for a break (and it wasn't a quick one) before the work really begins!

I had one hatch in the incubator but I didn't want to give it to that hen whose eggs are hatching because she's likely to have some that are the same colour and I can't keep track of who's who. And last time I used food colouring those chicks ended up getting that coloured patch plucked by their father! So, I have another hen sitting on eggs. She's my disabled girl but she loves being a Mum. I gave her the chick - she's flighty so initially moved away but as soon as she realised what I'd put in her nest she came over to talk to the baby then snuggled it under her. It was so sweet! I feel a bit bad that she'll end up abandoning her eggs, and I may fold and put them in the incubator, but it's so much easier when they are raised by an adult. There are 5 other eggs in the incubator so hopefully that's not too many for my little Waddles to take care of (she slipped her tendon as a chick and it couldn't be fixed but she gets along ok). :fl

Cap, that rabbit in your avatar is so cute! :love

Good luck! It looks great!

Good morning!

@rjohns39 hope your trip to work is a safe one, fog isn't fun to drive in.

@Teila glad to hear things are moving along for you! Keep us posted on how it all progresses :)

@JaeG good luck with Waddles and the new little ones.

@Michelle Farmer-Brown I clicked on the link in your email and it just took me to some sort of legal doc. Is it an ad for your house in town? Sorry about all the vehicle issues, hope today goes better!

Good morning all

Teila - That's absolutely wonderful

Michelle - looks real nice, should sell quick!

JaeG - I never have "liked" the term "lock down". It's still a part of the hatching process, why call it "lock down" their not in jail!:gig I don't necessarily follow that advice on what peeps:old refer to when they say lock down. :lau
3 days ago when I had 147 pheasants hatch, the humidity had got to a low of 25%, while I was at work. They still hatched, no problems, no shrink wraps.
I'll digress and get off my soap box, now!
Everyone have a great day! :)
