It is 88 here today. 85 tomorrow. Though one site says 87 today, 80 tomorrow. Point is, it is HOT. Had to buy $1 sunglasses at the dollar tree lol Buying some fruits and wet veggies for the chickens. Not much shade in that run. Gotta fix that.

That's 4 blackberries, 2 raspberries, 2 blueberries, 2 watermelons, collard greens, and kale. Blackberries and raspberries are buy one get one free so I figure 2 blackberries for us, 2 for the girls. The watermelon, it's somewhat late in the day so not sure if I should give them a whole one so got the quarter or whatever that is. Figure maybe I will give the whole one in the morning or keep for us. And just overheard that the chicken is on sale for 88 cents so I might get some. This one woman was stocking up lol got soooo much.

I do not do anything for the chickens at 85. I turn on the misting system if it is going up to 100 and have a shad cloth up.

It depends on the breed. Some will start dropping their wings and 85 to 90. They start panting above 90 to 95. Some will have heat stokes over 105 and some die at 110 if you do not have a misting system. When it gets that hot, it is a good idea to do a health check each hour and bring any that look like they are having heat stoke in to cool them of in a tub of water.

I did not lose any last year to the heat but did the year before-- One that summer. When it gets over 110, some chicken owners lose a lot of them. One person with marans lost 15 in one day up by Red Bluff. It was over 115 that day though

Thanks Ron, I really meant it as a sorta joke. You know how they claim you can fry an egg on the hood of a car. I figured there must be people who say you can fry a chicken on one also.

But very good to know the real dangers.

I do live in a place where chickens do fry in the heat

You kind of get to be good at keeping them alive in the heat
