Um, and they docked the tails because ... Rottie's are traditionally docked? Frankly I can't see a Rottie/hound mix combo bringing much money docked or not. But then what do I know, people buy all sorts of weird mixes.

It seems like it could be a good combo but I personally wouldn't dock a mix, idk. I'm not even sure I would dock any dogs. Natural tail dogs of breeds traditionally docked look really cool imo. And I've seen some people say tails and the ear one are unnecessary mutilation/only for looks and I kind of agree with it which is why I wouldn't do it to my dog and probably why it's being made illegal BUT people are still obsessed with docked tails and cropped ears and all that stuff so it probably does sell and I can see why she might do it and not saying that she's cruel or anything, she's not at all and I personally don't think it really hurts them as much as some people say, I just think it's unnecessary is all, but it's not all that terrible. Idk. It does inhibit communication with other dogs though

Yeah
Maybe because they are of "use" only for competition so no one wants anyone to know how they get the massive pumpkin that wins a blue ribbon? Or maybe not, I really don't know.
So they can get their picture in the paper and sell their monster pumpkin for $$$ to some grocery store. Plus the seeds from Howard Dills pumpkins used to go for about $5 for an envelope with a few seeds in it!

In a greenhouse!!! No way those cukes grew outdoors in MN. I planted mine "at the right time" too and the plants are only about 4" tall now. Heck my dang peas are just starting to flower and they've been in the ground since the end of April.

What breed?
Outside...not in a green house...and yes MN. The old saying is the field corn should be knee high by the 4th of July and It’s as tall as me...I’m only 5ft 2”but still. The potato plants are super high too. There must be the right amount of heat and sun. I should have green beans in a week.

OK, I'm coming over right this minute! (well maybe not).
How the heck is it hot enough in MN to get cukes to picking size by the end of June?? And no one has corn that high here yet. My onions look about like yours, they were set out as plants from the nursery. The peas, beans and cukes were seed planted in the garden.

I guess my potato plants are a bit shorter than yours, I won't be looking under them for spuds for a couple of months though.

Come on over...you can help me pick cucumbers:gigIt’s a weird year! We never get potato plants this big with potatoes this early. Potatoes are not huge yet but make great fryers. Onions I planted as bulbs. I tried plants last year and never got a one from them...good thing I planted bulbs also. Hubby’s field corn is beautiful! Hopefully it stays that way until it’s in the bin. We don’t do peas anymore...too much work. I can’t wait to dig into the green beans. The leaf has a yellow looking blight or something on them. Hope it doesn’t hurt the bean.

I agree. Last year her NS duck toller/lab mix had a litter with the hound mix. She wanted $500 for mutts! She's still got one from that litter and can't even give him away for free. She's planning on asking for more $ this time because the mother is pure bred (Not sure if she's papered though). Personally, I think that's just plain nuts. She should have hired a rottie stud.

When we adopted my avatar, vet asked if we wanted the tail cropped... My answer was
"why?" After a long dissertation, my answer was just leave it be. God made it leave it alone... I have to admit that she did a lot of damage with it over the years, but seemed happy to have it. And truth be known I didn't mind the damage...

tails are usually docked about 3 days of age. I know it doesn't tickle but, the pups seem to be over it quickly. Ear cropping is really a major deal, and not done to newborns. It really does hurt them and recovery time is not pleasant.

That's good to know, thanks

Yeah

Yeah, the seed packets were a ripoff lol

I wish I planted cukes or something

You must be a great gardener

Wow that is crazy. Even though the mother is purebred, they're still mutts.

Now, around here $400, $500, even $600 isn't uncommon, most rescues charge that, yes even for mutts, so that's not too terrible to me but asking more than $500 is crazy.

Although even $500 is still high and I wish they didn't charge that much but yeah. Although compared to purebreds it's not bad but still.

I can relate... I had a greyhound who wagged his tail and sliced a glass cleanly in half that was sitting on the coffee table.
