Yup, it is. Normally it's the beginning of November when we see these temperatures and the first snowfall. Next week the temps are supposed to be 15 and higher, so I know that this thankfully won't stick.

Those chickens are gorgeous! I can see why you want them (plus I'm a sucker for a bantam).

In NZ all you can get are brown eggs in stores so having a flock that lays all colours (including greeny/blue), and shades of brown is lovely. I especially love it when my girls give me speckled eggs.

yes, me too, i also have the bantam cochins, cochins have always been my love and these orpingtons fit right in, i also love the brahma's, the blue partridges and the red pyles but right now will just keep the bantams til we get to old to travel back and forth to florida-- pa

You folks are reminding me of my conversation with the the new boss coming back to the states from Riyadh. Boss says, Ohio gets lots of snow you want to be down south here in va... So I came back to va and two weeks later I had 17" of snow in my driveway. I called him and told him that the birds must poop a lot around here as I had 17" of "non-snow" in my driveway. He wasn't amused.

Why would he not be amused? I wpuld have laughed and said sorry about that or something similar. Or maybe snow follows you. Or something. Clearly he has no sense of humor lol
