Homemade is always better. Oh, and with both squash and pumpkin soup there are so many different directions you can go, just depends on your mood. Sweet, savory, spicey or not. And you can take it in two totally different directions with your garnish... Whipped Cream vice Sour Cream a few chives or cinnamon and roasted pumpkin seeds (sweet or savory).

husband and i tried pumpkin soup a couple of years ago, scratch from start to finish, neither one of us was impressed so that was our first and only pumpkin soup, he likes chili the best and i like vegetable, then we go on down the list of soups , both of us love the roasted red pepper soup, ham and cabbage soup, beef barley , in fact most soups:)

That all sounds good

I have to be in the mood for the sweet and I also like it spicy. But I generally enjoy the savory anytime.

What is savory?

not sweet but lots flavor from herbs Salt and pepper... Garlic and onion... Salt brings out the flavor in many things but in Canned soup its used as a preservative...

Also if you roast your veggies in the oven with a bit of salt pepper and olive oil to get them carmelized.... Then add them to Soups, Stews, or as a side dish...

ONe of my favorites though is Onion Jam... OH MY GAWD :thused like chutney as an accompny ment to meat...
