The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning! Been up for a couple of hours, but curled up in the recliner with “Eleanor of Aquitaine” and finished it. What a woman!

May is our really empty month.....just one visit to Cheyenne mid- month. So Fee will be at Motel Fiona for a couple of days and the chicks will be by themselves, but they’ll do fine with Mama Heating Pad, a big full feeder and plenty of water. Seemed the best time to get them if we were going to, because they’ll only need heat for a couple of weeks.

June is a little busier with a trip to the Grand Lodge of Arizona early in the month, a 10 day trip to South Dakota to visit family and attend South Dakota’s Grand Lodge, then Grand Lodge of Montana the end of the month. The chicks will have been off all heat well before that. Fee will be boarded and Jen can check on chicks and top off their food and water when needed, so it shouldn’t be too bad. No eggs to worry about yet, and our setup is pretty doggone secure. Katie will be with us, because if she misses SD Grand Lodge we won’t hear the end of it - from the SD Masons and their ladies as well as from her.

July looks great, with a couple things but nothing extending over several days except one. We have the two day Rocky Mountain Conference in Denver then comes August and we turn it all over to Tom Hamm and his Lady at Grand Lodge of Wyoming, the big 4 day event Ken and I have to put on. Last big event is York Rite Sessions in September, but we always attend that anyway, since he’s Grand Recorder/Grand Secretary for two of the York Rite bodies.

As of the end of this month (after Tuesday’s visit to Gillette) we have visited 32 of the 42 Lodges in Wyoming, plus Sessions in Casper, plus Grand Lodge of Idaho. Ken was doing his mileage tracking for Grand Lodge, and since September we have put 16,000+ miles on the car, and only left the state once. He also made a trip to Boise and one to Kennewick, Washington, but I didn’t go on those and he didn’t drive...he went with a couple of other guys. I’ve only sat out 3 of these Wyoming jaunts. This Grand Lodge stuff ain’t for sissies......or homebodies! Oh, and we have Grand Lodge of Utah in January (flying to Salt Lake for that one) as well as the Grand Masters’ Winter Reunion in Riverton, Wy., and the Conference of Grand Masters in Rapid City in February in Rapid City coming up too.

There you have it.....now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in the bedroom sucking on oxygen.

:yaYou're getting more chickens? Hurray! Sounds like a busy year coming up, not to mention this last year, wowsers!

But @Blooie you forgot the IMPORTANT part! What breeds of chickens are you getting?

I got my 2 Easter Eggers, a couple of Light Brahmas, a couple of Buff Brahmas, 2 Blue Splash Marans, 2 Black Jersey Giants, 2 Speckled Sussex, and a Cream Legbar. And I stop there! 13 is way more manageable than the 27 we were up to at one point.

The mostly busy part is behind us! In September we were only home for 4 days and October wasn’t much better! Ken wanted to get all the visitations to the Lodges in the bad wintery part of the state done early. The last 10 Lodges we have to do are pretty much local...all within a hundred miles. Well, except Newcastle. Still have that one to do in December, weather permitting.

And just where in the heck have you been hiding, or have I just missed you?

I think we've just missed each other. I haven't posted on this thread much, just happened to pop in and see you :)

I try to keep up but this is a popular thread! I've added quail in lieu of more chickens for the time being, and 2 puppies. Must be out of my mind, but they keep me busy and bring much joy and happiness.

That's quite the quandary...how about quail AND chicks

LOL could do that and very well might!! Incubator Warehouse is having a Cyber Monday sale

Sounds like a very nice mix!! I’ve been wanting to try Brahmas and Speckled Sussex but I was worried about the feathered feet getting all muddy plus I think Brahmas might be a bit big for my coop. But I might expand it or build a second mini coop. Tbh though my girls don’t even go in the back half of the coop unless I put food or something back there because I put the nest boxes and roosts in the front half. Probably a bad design on my part. But they are getting older so I need to either get new chickens or just deal with less eggs I guess. They turned 3 in October. We don’t really eat very many anyway but we give some to brother and FSIL.

How do you like the quail?

Yours too Ron? I hate CVS but at least they kept the staff that was there for years - knock on wood. YES CVS wants to conquer the world. When I get their PITA recorded phone messages I always talk back in BAD language. Then I always chose the number for speak to pharmacy staff.

I hear they are taking over or hoping to do so I think , one or more other pharmacy chains if the government will allow it. Target pharmacy ran very smoothly without CVS hampering them.
CVS seems to do well here but it is the workers that make the difference. I have the notices sent by text message so I do not have to listen to voice messages

 Um, somebody ordered chicks tonight for delivery next spring. Somebody slap me....:smack Oh, thanks. I feel better but I still have chicks coming AND an Irish Wolfhound.

:clap

Got any puppy pictures? I know we'd all love to see them. 2 must be a handful! Hope you're enjoying the quail. I love our quail.
