We too discovered that there was zero insulation in the exterior walls. The attic on the other hand... I think any time tennants complained about being cold the previous owner just put more insulation up in the attic. There's peat moss, then vermiculite, then over 12" of blown in pink.

Look at those floors! Are you keeping the wood? I love those, we had several places with wood floors when I was a kid. Add socks and loud music, great for dancing!

When you think about all the stuff in a kitchen that needs to be plugged in, it makes sense to have a lot of outlets. Stuff like coffee makers, toaster ovens, microwaves, mixers, etc. And you're right...short cords on all of them.

I guess when this house was built in the '50's people were tougher and didn't expect the houses to be kept as warm as summer :confused:

wish i did have lots of inlets, only have two on the countertop and could use another:hit

All of the rooms except the kitchen have the original hardwood floors, they'll look great once they're sanded and re-stained. We got lucky with that! In the kitchen someone at some time covered the wood floors with a cheap laminate flooring (and they're damaged) so that's going to be removed and we'll put tile down.

Tile's good for sock skating too!

That's awesome the floors are in good shape except the kitchen. I would rather have tile in the wet areas anyway.

You said you're going to add a bathroom right? Is the existing bath nice and big like they used to be? I love big bathrooms you can move around in without running into stuff. These days bathrooms are too small!

The existing bathroom is pretty good sized but strange layout and it's ugly! The walls were painted a baby-poo brown, there's white paint on several parts of the tub and nice (not!) big hole in the wall by the stool.

We're going to create a 1/2 bath by taking part of the existing bathroom and combine it with the current hall closet to make room for it. The hall closet can be moved to the opposite side of the hallway so that's not lost. Where the tub/stool/vanity is now we'll replace all that and make it a private master bath (which means opening up a wall in the master to make a door to it).
