The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Lot of nice places around Dothan,AL. Not on the coast but close enough. Also not alot of hurricanes hit around there. I would worry about moving back to the desert owing to water shortages.

I always worry about hurricanes down there so that is good if it isn’t affected by it. And good point about the desert, forgot about that. Plus it’s too hot. Dry heat but still, 120 is too much lol but I absolutely hate humidity and mosquitoes too so not sure down south is best for me lol especially since I also hate bugs, snakes, creepy crawlies

OK, I am really behind (that'll teach me for not visiting!). I'll try and catch up.

It's a new year here already. Our birds have been getting far too hot in their shed so we've decided to put the birds back in the aviary. The cockatiels make a mess inside and I'm forever cleaning their cage so they and the bourkes will have the run of the aviary, the finches will go in small cages within the aviary and our Button quail will go in the bottom of the aviary and they'll just all have to get along. I put the bourkes and cockatiels into the aviary yesterday, forgetting that people would more than likely have fireworks that night. I covered the sides as best I could and prayed no bird would get a fright and kill themselves by flying into the side.

And good thing I did - I have to say I didn't appreciate getting jolted awake at midnight by ridiculously loud, booming fireworks! Thankfully our birds are more than used to unexpected loud noises living with two kids!

Anyway the birds are loving having so much freedom though the cockatiels are still figuring out that they can fly to where they want to go, rather than having to climb everywhere. One sweet little bourke we have, Ruby, was their neighbour indoors while the cockatiels were growing up. She remembered them and immediately flew over to sit on the same perch as them. She's a sweetheart.

I was thinking about Teila the other day as there's been bad flooding in North Queensland. One guy photographed cane toads (quite a number of the awful things) hitching a ride on a python to stay out of the flood waters! Australia is having terrible heatwaves too.
I love 'tiels! When I lived in Ohio many years ago worked in an all avian vet clinic and had a whole basement full of rescue birds. Had to find homes for all when I moved down south. Anything from finches to my big Mealy Amazon. Miss the birds, but not the mess!

We live up state near Auburn and don't have to deal with too many crawlies. The occasional copperhead rattlesnake or others that are non-venomous. Only kill the rattlers tho'.

Seriously? Really overdoing the rain, the river is still high from the 2" of rain we got last time. The runs are mud pits.
I feel for you!
Well, this lousy weather isn't getting any better...with the wind chill, it feels like -17*.

I was just out checking on the chickens. They seem to be faring ok but do not want to leave the coop, can't blame them for that!
Mine will not come out unless theres lots of ground showing. That will not be for a while.

That’s good!! Guess I just assumed most places down there had lots of snakes and bugs but that’s good if some have less :)

no. not if you like the cold and snow, would be too hot for you

Yeah, I don’t think I would like that very much aha winters might not be so bad, I might freeze my buns off any further north than MA, but I think I would probably roast or melt in the summer down south aha absolutely hateeee heat and humidity and also heat makes my problems worse, like I tend to get dehydrated and migraines really easily in summer, even here, and weak or whatever, and also have asthma. But that said, I don’t like having the heat on or fires because the dry air dries my eyes out. Don’t really usually get a headache from it but feels weird. Maybe there is a way to make fire and heat bother me less.
