I couldn't really tell by the pic, but that makes sense looking at the pic now. It’s actually not a sage hen...it’s a Blue Grouse.

I'll bet it got run over by now though...nature has a way of eliminating 'bad' genes.![]()
No, I won't hold it against ya, I probably would have wringed its neck!Is it really awful if I hope he did? I’ve been comparing his closeup photos with what I can find and it looks his sub-species is Dusky Grouse. His legs were fully feathered all the way down.
Edited: I should say too that there are only 3 bites out the bunch that hurt....the one I got on my fanny (I think the rear view mirror kept Katie from getting that one, pun not intended), the one on my leg, and the one under my eye. The ones on my thigh and upper arm don’t really hurt. But he meant business!
Rinse them out good, don't need ya getting grouse fever!Um, make that 6 puncture wounds, Diva. The two under my eye are more a pinch with very shallow punctures. The dark one on my leg is the worst, those were kinda deeper than I expected when I cleaned them out. And the one on my hiney is about the same as the one in my leg. Little sh....er...bird.
