The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Gotta get some better pictures but they were all moving too much haha but got this the other day. The chicks are all grown up and just look like miniature chickens now lol they haven’t really grown that much or at least not look that much different from 6 or 7 weeks or whenever they fully feathered till now but I guess they must be or else they’d probably act sick or something haha they all act fine and are full of energy so so I guess they must be fine. And they have been slowly getting bigger, no longer fit through the gate and they’ve been growing their tail feathers. Not really this particular chicken but the leghorn has a big full tail already lol

usually a cockerel is slow growing a tail, hens tail feathers come in three times sooner

I hope she’s not one. :( although I think she looks like hen coloring doesn’t she? Or do male Sussex have the white too? They just turned 9 weeks old the other day (Monday) and none of them have red combs or wattles or much development. All still yellow. Wouldn’t any of them have much bigger combs and wattles and/or be red by now?? I kind of thought by this one’s attitude even from a young age she might be one but then when her comb still isn’t red I thought maybe she really was a girl. I sure hope so. :fl My Barred Rock has a lot of attitude too, even at 2 weeks old, had kind of a cockerel stance sometimes, standing straight up and looking right at me, and a lot of comb and wattles, and her comb and wattles are HUGE now but she ended up being a girl and lays eggs so I’m hoping this Sussex is just a sassy girl and there’s still hope. :fl

i only had the light sussex and to be honest, it was many years ago but keep watching, just because the comb isn't red doesn't mean its not a cockerel, cockerels are slow growing at times, i've got chicks that right now that i wonder about, the little girls will try to jump on my hand as i reach in for the food container but like i said, who knows
i can't really see the head up close:idunno
