The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hiya Debby :frow I’m not up to very much today. Just hanging out with by birdies I guess  What’re you up to?

That sounds like a good way to spend the day :)

The most excitement I have planned for today is a trip to town to grocery shop :p Maybe I'll do something extra special and get some laundry done too. Person just can't have too much fun you know!

Good morning all! We’re still at my sisters. It was a rough night last night. They did fireworks at their family reunion and my sisters boy took one to the eye. We got him to the ER and they took him by ambulance to the University of Minnesota. We couldn’t take my sister and her hubby as neither one of us drives in the cities. A cousin took them. They are transferring him to another hospital right now and he has surgery at 7:30. Last night both doctors said he would probably lose his eye. This morning they are saying they may be able to save the eye but he won’t be able to see. His other eye is scratched so don’t know if there’s anything they do for that or if it heals with time. Not much for sleep here last night.

Oh, that’s terrible! I can’t even imagine the pain. Everyone will be in my prayers, that’s for sure!!!

Kenny was about 9 and little Mr. Accident-Prone had broken his arm just a couple of weeks before we went home on leave over the Fourth. The whole bloomin’ family went up to Lori and Steve’s cabin at the lake. Ken was working on a wiring issue in the back bedroom. I told Steve not to let Kenny shoot off anything more hefty than a few firecrackers. Linda, Lori, Bev and I were in the cabin getting burgers ready to put on the grill while the men-folk played pyromaniacs. When we sat down to eat I noticed an angry red burn on Kenny’s broken arm and asked him what happened. He looked up at his Uncle Steve guiltily and Steve said, “Not my rap, Kenny. You have to take this one on your own.” Turns out Kenny was sticking bottle rockets in his cast and lighting them off. :thWell, I’m all about sympathizing when they got hurt. But that event is where my siblings and all of the kids first heard the phrase, “I have no sympathy for stupidity.” It’s stuck- we all use it, our kids use it, and their kids understand exactly what that means. We treated Kenny’s burn, no ER trip, and I’d like to say he learned about the dangers of fireworks. Um, he didn’t. Nice kid - just not always the fullest banana in the peel.

Happy birthday, DD..,,:ya :love

So sorry to hear about your nephew DMC!!! Hopefully they are able to save the eye and if not, hopefully he adapts well. I do hope they are able to save at least one though. :fl

And sorry to hear about that sorry excuse for a father. He deserves a :smack

And I am sorry for/about your brother in law, I am sure he must be beating himself up, but accidents do happen and hopefully he isn’t too hard on himself.

I will be praying for you and your family. And here are some hugs for you and everyone. :hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

 :th OMG!!!

Fireworks are definitely dangerous. One time we shot off a bottle rocket but my dad and brother put it in the holder backwards or something and somehow a spark hit my mother in the leg. I don’t think the actual rocket hit her but a spark or something landed on her and caught her pants on fire! Burnt a hole through her pants and she got a little burn on her leg but thankfully it was a small hole and quickly put out so she wasn’t really injured besides that little burn. Could have been a lot worse. But my brother noticed it. Ummm your pants are on fire! Of course she was freaking out. I think it almost hit her face too but didn’t thankfully. Just caught the pants on fire. She ran inside. And thankfully she was fine. But I don’t think we ever launched fireworks after that.

They are illegal here anyway but we used to sometimes buy them from this huge super store near my grandparents in like PA or NY (can’t remember what side of the border the store was on) and bring them home. Phantom Fireworks. I don’t think the store exists anymore though.

We never really launched many though we just liked to go. We used to just have a bunch laying around cause we would sometimes buy a lot but then we never really launch fireworks and they’re illegal plus the incident so we wouldn’t use them but I think we got rid of them.

We mostly got small kid friendly stuff anyway though like those paper things you can throw on the ground that snap/pop and sparklers and sometimes little firecrackers. And we liked the ground displays better than the other stuff anyway like the fountains and mugs and stuff. Those were awesome. I liked getting the multipack things haha I think they’re designed for kids. But the boys (dad and 2 brothers) used to like buying bottle rockets and crazy stuff so we used to have a lot of bottle rockets.

Feeling a lot better this morning as in.... completely fine so I really believe it was just food poisoning now. Still pretty dehydrated though so I’m still working on catching up there. Feel fine though. And nowhere dehydrated as I was, just not quite the perfect color urine yet and slightly dry lips/mouth so gotta work on that ha been drinking a lot of water already this morning so I’ll get there. Anyway, thanks for all the help yesterday! And sorry for freaking out.
