Came to pick up some fake eggs and Tractor Supply has baby chicks.

RIR and Red Rangers, both straight run. Almost wonder if I shouldn’t just pick her up some chicks haha

Gotta make sure she’s serious first though.

The Orpington was in the run this morning so idk what she’s doing.

Hmmm... good idea! I don’t want the other girls getting any ideas!!

The Orpington I think had been considering it for a while because she’s been sometimes sleeping in the nest boxes lately, along with the Australorp, but then during the day she is less sure. Meanwhile, the Australorp has apparently finally decided that she is serious after all and stays put.

Gonna let one hatch. Just don’t know which one yet. Originally was gonna let the Australorp but that was before I knew the Orpington was broody too.

Gonna pick up some fake eggs today and test them. And maybe move one to the middle box and keep them both in the far boxes so they don’t intimidate the other girls right now they’re both in the favorite boxes plus of course the Australorp being in the first one so the other girls have to walk by her to lay.... sometimes they just decide not to lay cause they’re so intimidated.



Sounds like you’re keeping busy! Do you at least like the work?

And that’s a lot of broodies! I usually only have one at a time. But it seems now that the girls are getting older, they all want to be moms.

Right after I took this picture, one of the littles ran past her, jumped on the nest box lip, and tried to get out but I pushed her back in (gently of course) and anyway, she fell right on Blackie of course this startled her and she went running off the nest! Got some food in the coop, ran outside, ran to the water bucket, quick scratch/bathe and ran back in. But she was kind of pacing/clucking and went back out when she saw I took her egg. And apparently didn’t like the 4 ceramics I put in the middle nest. She’s been outside a while but she just went back in a couple minutes ago so hopefully the chick jumping on her didn’t break her of being broody. I moved the ceramic eggs to her original nest for now and she’s back in so hopefully she stays broody! I figure, I want to get her to stay broody first, then move her later. Don’t want her to break cause of too much change at once. So far she is back so looking good. Also when she was outside she was PO’d and chasing everybody and all puffed up. still in broody mode, clearly. so hopefully she stays on the nest.

In exactly 1 week and 31 minutes we will be 100% DONE with Ken’s year! Got another load hauled to Sheridan, Evan got home from South Dakota Sunday so we took him shopping in Billings yesterday for a new suit. He’ll need it for band concerts at school anyway. Got my Redneck Cowboy Date Night basket done for the silent auction. We leave at dawn tomorrow for Cheyenne and the Eastern Star Grand Communication and will be home Thursday evening. Friday we pick up Tam’s, Evans, Jen’s, Katie’s and Kendra’s luggage and load it, add ours, and haul it over the mountain. Getting there!! Here’s my auction basket, beautifully wrapped for presentation.

We haven’t had the Rav since March. Fiona outgrew it so we traded it in for a mini-van.
