Good morning! It’s HATCH DAY!!!! Our new chicks are hatching and should be sent out today! Normally I’m concerned because it’s so doggone cold when they ship, but now I’m worried about the heat. We’ve been in the 90s and it’s going to stay that way through the week. Ken and I are in the middle of a bit of a tiff because I want to bring in the wire dog kennel that we’ve used in the past, but he bought a big wardrobe box that he’s convinced will be perfect. I hate it! Totally enclosed spaces mean the chicks can’t see us approaching, and the bottom gets soggy and wet. And only having an opening at the top means little air circulation....as my friend @Lazygardener says it’s like putting them in an Easy Bake Oven. But Ken says they’ll only be inside for the first day or so, and we can just pitch the box when they move outside. The kennel is over in our storage unit, which looks like his office did, and he doesn’t want to go over there and dig it out just to bring it back in a couple of days. So we’ll see. I have until Thursday evening to change his mind.
His other concern is that in the crate, Fiona can see them flapping and running and all the other chickie things they do, and she’ll go crazy trying to get them. Well, that’s what I want! I can’t start correcting behaviors from the get-go if those behaviors don’t happen.
We’re heading for Riverton today. Leaving in about an hour. The Advanced Report books are printed for Grand York Rite Sessions, which starts on the 12th, and we need to run down and pick them up. The Grand Secretary for Wyoming Masons owns a printing shop and he does the books for a super low price. He lives in Lander so we’re meeting him and his wife at the Casino for lunch. Oh boy!! Lobster for lunch!!!
