I must say after having Sweetpea I totally understand why Delawares were once used as meat birds…
She is huge LOL I can’t even imagine how big a rooster from the breed would be or a properly bred heritage bird from a breeder and not a hatchery.

the wood is but remember, this is a working "farm" table so it has alot of cuts and scratches again now, but i still love the red oak, i have a thing for wood, i love oak of any kind, our bedroom dressers are also oak and mine is a 1910, when i bought it at a home auction, it had 5 coats of paint, even the red brass handles were painted, took me a couple of months to redo it, even the mirror is dated 1910 on the back but at the time i wasn't working so i could strip paint everyday
yep, have a thing for wood and trees![]()
the young of the day just throw things away instead of trying to repair the workmanship of the good things, my son for instant just buys cheap, when it wears out, throws it out and buys more cheap, my sofa is also old, i have no idea how old but it was mil's and she had it and its twin in her living room when i married husband in 69 its wood frame, cherry(she liked cherry) with stuffed pillows for seats and backs, sil has the other one.i guess when i die he will probably throw my stuff in the garbage, guess i could haunt him for itYea but that's what makes them beautiful in my opinion. It has character and I love that.
I have a thing for wood and trees myself. I have an old buffet? It's from the 1920s. The top is gone but I still have the leaded glass tgat was in it. Hubs is going to hang it in the dining area and I can't bring myself to refinish this thing. It has a water mark and a couple of gashes in the top but I love it dearly.

My dad's biggest hobby was woodworking. He made so many beautiful tables, picture frames, bowls, candlesticks, cabinets, even toys. After he passed, my brother found a huge stash of wood dad had set aside for future projects. My brother made me a couple of little bedside tables from dad's wood. Those hold a special place in my heart.

Shiney and new ain't all it's cracked up to be but people don't see that I guess. I doubt my kids will want any of my stuff either.
amen, maybe one day they will learn, i just wish i had more of my momma's things but the only things i have are the quilts she made those mean the world to me, the last one, a double wedding ring even has a spot of her blood on it where she stuck her finger with the needle
That's so cool he did that for you NFC! What a special reminder of your dad![]()
Given its age, the top is probably pretty thick. I suspect you could sand out the water stain and at least some of the gashes. It has a water mark and a couple of gashes in the top but I love it dearly.
Tell him what it is worth, he would at least sell it for the money.i guess when i die he will probably throw my stuff in the garbage, guess i could haunt him for it

I love wood and old wood furnishings. I have a "parlor" set that was my grandfather's. Family lore says the only reason it still exists is because it was in his furniture maker grandfather's house when the Confederates burned the wood working shop in Baltimore. All hand carved, the guy who reupholstered it a few years ago (2nd time in the life of the pieces) said you don't see a whole set very often. 1 settee, 1 arm chair, 5 other chairs. No idea what it is worth, I don't have it insured since it is irreplaceable.
The 'white side' of my family was also on the side of the Confederacy. My great great grandfather had a huge plantation, cotton gin, and a hardware store in Brehenam, Texas. He lost everything to the Yankees when the carpetbaggers and the Union forces took or burned every thing he owned. He was a colonel in a Texas calvary unit.that would probably do it
wish i had some furniture that special, but my family are all confederates lol
