The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Glad you can keep some of your flock Sharron! Especially your old girl, sounds like she's earned a forever home :)

Good morning DMC! I suppose by the time this gets posted, you'll be on your way to watch over the kiddos. Hope they'll be good for you today!

Sounds like a perfect weather day Sean...enjoy!

With the holidays coming up, will they maybe be able to come for a visit Cap? Sorry, I can't remember how far away they are. It's tough missing the ones we love :hugs

NO, no snow storms! (Unless they are west of you and east of me  )

And no to hurricanes too!
They live in western Florida and we are in VA. About a 12 hour drive. It is a big production for them with the kids. Plus they use up their vacation days on trips to Disney or other places. My younger son is coming to VA for a Magic tournament mid November, so at least we will get to see him.

Families seem to be really spread out any more. When my son comes for a visit, he has a 15 hour drive. Fortunately, he can break it up a bit by stopping at my mom's house for a couple days.

Glad you'll get to see one of your boys in just a short while Cap!

Me too, I wish the wife and baby could come too.

I don't know of any around here, but it would be nice.
yeah i have to pay my friend, its only fair but i don't mind cause its for months and i know they're safe, with gd, not so much, and she wants to only feed them once a day her goats will probably starve since husband has been the one to feed them twice a day and make sure they have water, she likes to stay up til one or two in the morning then sleep til ten or eleven in the morning(home school) most kids now days want things but they don't want to take care of them

I’m starting to think you guys were right about the fox btw. He’s DEFINITELY waiting for a chicken meal. Either that or he’s rabid. Or he’s just the dumbest fox I’ve ever seen in my entire life!! Or all 3!!!

He was out there again today. Just chased him off a little over an hour ago.

But I didn’t even really need to because he was just sitting there!?

Right next to the chicken coop this time. And I do mean right next to it.

Just laying in the one sunny spot left.

We have a lot of pine trees and it’s been getting dark early so the only sunny spot left in the whole yard is that corner by the coop.

And he was in it.

On the dirt.

Sunning himself like the dang cat and chickens do.

He wasn’t bothering the chickens at all but he WAS right next to the coop.

So I decided I better scare him off. He is, evidently, getting WAY too comfortable around here.

So I walked out there and when he saw me, he just stared at me! Didn’t move. I should have gotten a picture because it was rather intriguing how he was just laying there so close yet not bothering them, but I decided not to.

Anyway, he only ran off when I ran after him screaming!

And even then he stopped a little ways back in the woods. I could just barely see him. I had to keep screaming/keep coming towards him until the woods line to get him go away for real.

It’s like he was waiting to see if I was serious or not.

We need Big Guy. :barnie

Speaking of which, his new home actually didn’t work out, kinda complicated story, but DB & SIL just took him back yesterday. I still don’t think we should adopt him but maybe we could borrow him for a day or something... LOL

I didn’t get a picture of the fox but I got a picture of the sunny spot I mean.

He was literally just laying there right in front of the coop right below the window/next to the nest boxes. The chickens were all in the run so he wasn’t after them. It was VERY odd.

But he was beautiful in looks. Full coat, bright/deep colors, etc. didn’t look sick at all.

So maybe just waiting for an opportunity??

This whole thing is VERY weird to me though!

We have had fox problems before. We’ve had foxes circle the pen numerous times. We’ve had foxes climb on top of the pen/walk on the run roof. We’ve had them trot by to check if there’s a free meal yet. But I have NEVER seen a fox just hang around like that!?!? So close to them yet acting totally harmless!? It’s the strangest dang thing. Never had that happen until he first appeared the other day or I guess Friday? Gosh it really feels like the other day :lau

Anyway. Until these two times I’ve never seen it happen before.

Why would he be doing this? Maybe he’s young? Does he not know what a chicken meal is? Does he just like the warmth of the sun like the cat? Or do you think he’s just biding his time?

ALSO.

The dang cat took full advantage of the open door (didn’t even think about it cause I just ran out after the fox) and got outside! I caught her but not before she made me chase her all over! Seriously! She kept running away but also kind of playing with me because she would stop like she was gonna let me catch her then take off again! :barnie

And then when I finally almost caught her in the front yard, turned right around and ran to the back again!! :barnie

Finally I stopped, realizing me chasing her was causing her to run more, and tried talking to her first. In my talking I asked her if she wanted a can :lau

Then kept repeating can/offering it a few times to make sure she heard me before approaching and was still talking to her/offering it the whole time I was approaching.

Miraculously, she let me approach and pick her up. :lau

So APPARENTLY all it takes to get to a cat’s heart is food. :lau

Don’t worry though, I didn’t just bribe her.

I also made sure to talk some sense into her/scare her straight too after I caught her. :lau

Gave her the old “you can’t be out here with that fox. He’ll eat you!!” :lau

Kelsey, I'd be keeping an eye on that fox. Sure wouldn't want anything to happen to your birds.

Sorry the adoption didn't work out for the Big Guy. Maybe the next one will.

Yeah, I’m definitely watching him and chasing him off every time now! And keeping the girls locked up for a while. It’s just weird to me how he just keeps hanging around perfectly relaxed without bothering them at all????

And thanks, us too, but it’s probably for the best. The whole thing was just very weird and very fast and I don’t think it was really a good fit anyway. Now they can just get him a bit more settled in and find a better home. I think they are also going to try to focus more on finding someone they know rather than advertising a ton online. Or at least at first. They know a lot of people so hopefully someone will know of someone wanting a dog. :fl

Kdogg maybe the fox has been someone's pet and got put out! When I used to do serious walking every day, I would pass a house a couple of blocks north of me. Twice I
saw the back door open and a fox came out. No joke. She must have at least been feeding him.

Wonder if she stopped, as we suddenly inherited a fox that made or found a den at the end of the property in a mess of Buck thorn bushes & trees and a rusted out metal shed.
Once I saw him with another fox - honestly feminine, refined looking head and they romped around for a day and never saw the second one again. Was kinda hoping I'd see babies one day but :idunnoguess it was wasn't meant to be. Or maybe the males don't help out with any litter.

Something isn't right with a fox that is not wary of people. Could be it grew up "in town" and people fed it ('cause it was so pretty)??

would rip the bottom out of the boat if they hit one of those running fast
Really good reason to leave the stumps. Because you KNOW there are people who don't give a carp about the damage their wake causes.

Me too! I didn't notice until you pointed it out :D
Hmmm, are you in charge of the BYC restaurant? Do you deliver?
