The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Youngest is still working. He’ll find out tonight if he is done for the season. He works for a local farmer also so if he's laid off he will help him finish up harvest.
Oldest is still working but has taken 3-4 weeks off from his regular job to haul sugar beets and help another local farmer with harvest. He hired my brother and my friends husband to drive Semi when he couldn’t. They are just about done thankfully. If it freezes much harder they will be done as the ground can’t be dug. He is getting very little sleep. Lots of break downs and stress this year. I am so grateful we got done this past week!
wish we had some of the left over fiber from the sugar beets for pig feed

A late good morning all:frow

Unlike the rest of you (except Nancy & Kelsey), I'm a late to bed, late to rise kind of person. I was really proud of myself today. I actually got up @ 8:30 without any alarms. Normally it'd be about 11. When I need to get up earlier I have to set at least 6 different alarms to get up.

11*F here right now. Snowed all day yesterday, but I think the accumulation was only about 3". Later this week we're supposed to get rain.
What a messed up year it's been weatherwise.
afternoon fd :frow
:hugs don't think i want to live close to you, too cold

Sharron, what do you do with your pigs in the winter? Does the same person watching your flock take care of the pigs too?
no debby, this is the first year and i put a guilt trip on son to watch and take care of his daddys pigs, son loves his father lol if he had said no, would have found someone to take care of them for husband believe me , husband loves these little piggies

when I try to go to bed earlier, I can't fall asleep:idunno
I fall asleep pretty well but don't wake me up in the first 15 minutes or I'll be awake for hours. What also screws my sleep is if I wake up in the middle of the night and my mind is running. Can't go back to sleep.

Thanks, it is. Hubby is much less crabby!!
That is good. He had a ton of stress with the weather this year, I'm not surprised he was a bit crabby.

It’s snowing here right now. Kind of looks like a snow globe. It can quit anytime!!
We are supposed to get 10" Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon. I'm very willing to share a good amount of that before it hits the ground. DW has to be at work by 6:45 Tuesday. Guess I'll be getting up early, warming up the tractor and moving snow.

I fall asleep while watching tv or reading, but when I get into bed I'm wide awake.
Then you need to sleep in your reading/TV chair!

Get busy woman! (So says the person that hasn't canned anything in about 3 years :p )
Lettin the pressure canner step scare me a little. I am going to do beans first... Most likely Black eyed peas with some Salt pork added.

I already water bath canned some Apple butter... Filled up twenty seven jars. 24 eight ounce jelly jars and three half pints. Double stacked my bit soup pot but still had to do the Half Pints separate.

Most I will be doing is half pints... I can always open two if I have company.

My last purchase was a Killer deal on Tuna... Albacore. I plan to do some Canned tuna hopefully soon. Little jars with a drizzle of olive oil and some spices varying from Red pepper to Aleppo pepper, Garlic, Dill, Zatar, and just plain. to test my new spices... Cant wait.

Aleppo pepper comes originally from Syria but its grown here... If I like It it will be one of my first plants.

Zatar comes from the middle east. It tastes like Tyme but it comes from a different plant. It also has Sumac and sesame.. Each blend is different like saying Curry.... Curry can be blended in so many ways.

I hope your weathermen are wrong...10" is too much.
