The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

hi im
well, they're growing, i have all of the tomatoes about an inch tall, my dahlia 's are up, transplanted a apple seedling yesterday:fl:fl, and might have another one starting, if i can get them growing, will be the first time i've started a apple tree from seeds, i started orange trees this past fall, just waiting til spring and will transplant them down here in the yard so guess my garden is starting
what else do you have started?

Fantastic! I've never had luck with apples here, I kill them or the weather does I guess.

I have one broccoli plant, mustard, carrots, a strawberry plant, artichokes, peas and potatoes. Never grown taters before. There are tomatoes on a donor plant but they aren't turning red. I saw a few bees in the flowers yesterday so I decided to leave the plant for them.

Thanks, I call them volunteers. Last year a volunteer was one of my best producing plants.

Yea, that's what I meant but used the wrong word...I have the grandkids here and they're scrambling my brains

When you said 'donor' I wondered if you took and rooted cuttings from a plant. Don't know if that is even possible.

Yes you can do that with tomatoes. Cut the suckers off that grow at the base of the plant, swirl in rooting hormone and put in a pot. You can get a bumper crop of tomatoes if you have a sunny location indoors to grow them.

mustard sounds good, i have it come up every year since i planted years ago, i love it, husband not so much, he likes turnips better and had twenty or more volunteer peach tomato plants come up, that a first for me altho i do have grape tomatoes come up, no idea where they came from being as i never planted any
hoping the apple takes off, its a store bought apple, a opal, but who knows its a grafted tree. we'll see

sometimes sour, i break off "suckers" from tomatoes and stick them down in a jar of water, when they put out roots i put them into the garden, they produce just as well as the mother plant

Good morning again to everyone!

Love hearing all the garden talk, I'm really looking forward to being able to have a garden again.

just fine debby, you? anyone tell you whats wrong with the leg yet?

I've heard several things the foot problem "might" be, but no one seems to agree so no real treatment yet. I've been told to make an appointment with doctor #4, just too early to call them yet.
