I haven’t slept good my whole life. It got worse after I had kids. I have to sleep with a fan to block out noises as do both of my boys.

No, you are not!I dunno the answers, but I think they're different for each of us.
I'm trying meditation to help my brain relax. As for the body, sometimes if I just do what it wants it resets. For instance, I'll wake up at 2 AM, by 2 that afternoon I'll want a nap. If I take the nap then I'm up later that night but my body seems to reset the next day.
On the flip side, you're retired. You can do what you want when you want. Maybe you need to force a schedule for a period of time to reset your switch.
