That is why we should do away with time zones. Everyone on Universal, 8 AM is 8 AM, you only need to know what time of day people are available if you want to call them. Wouldn't want to call NY from London at 8 AM unless the New Yorker was a real night owl.
My younger sister and her husband lived on Oahu for 2 years. That was long enough. The weather is nice but you really are trapped in a relatively small area. Want to go to another island? Buy a plane ticket ... but you don't have a car to do anything so you have to rent or get a cab (probably Uber and Lyft these days). Gets real expensive to see anything but the island you live on and you've already seen it plenty.
BTW: Waikiki beach was a SERIOUS letdown. Don't even bother. Narrow strip of sand in front of a lot of hotels, nothing to see in the water. And that was over 30 years ago, I doubt it is better now.
