the san marzano's, didn't plant any this year, i use quarts mostly
Gotcha! I'm trying to decide if I want to plant them again next year or try the super sauce tomatoes or both! The Marzano's are small, but we are getting quite a few of them. I did some pints as I think it will be nice to pull a jar out to make a small batch of salsa once in a while! I will probably put the next batch into quarts! The other tomato varieties will all be in quarts! :)

This year I'm going to have to find someone local and buy tomatoes. The horn worms won. I really need to put up 12 quarts of whole, 52 pints of diced and and probably about 25 or so pints of sauce. I hate buying canned goods from the store.
That sucks! I hope you can find enough to reach your goal! We currently have 31 quarts and 22 pints! We canned 33 quarts, but I used 2 yesterday! I can't wait to see how many we get. I'm also going to use up the green tomatoes at the end of the year by making green tomato salsa, I've never done this, but I'm excited to try it! We've had horn worms in the past, but haven't had any or very few in the last couple of years and none that I've seen this year! Hopefully, I didn't just jinx myself for next year! lol

Good morning everyone! :frow I hope you all have a great weekend! We're having a very windy day, it's blowing in some cooler weather! We'll be in the low 80's for the next few days, then back into the low to mid 90's.

I canned 20 pints of San Marzano tomatoes yesterday. I will be canning our other varieties today. I have no idea how many quarts we will get!
Good afternoon Rene :frow enjoy your Saturday
Sounds like you have a busy weekend!

I am sorry Bob!

Here there is a blight that kills them early each year

Morning Ron! We deal with blight here too...do you have a lot of cheatgrass where you live! We've learned that it's a virus, leaf hoppers eat the cheatgrass and then get onto the tomatoes and spread the virus that causes the blight! We can keep it down on our property, if we work at it, but we can't do anything about the neighbors fields!

It is called southern blight and is a fungus in the soil. The place has to have highs over 85F to get it.

It does not seem to spread from insects.
