The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

How long did it take for them to get your water back on?
The water was back on the same day at about 7pm or so. The crew worked some overtime!

They did the prep work today and will come back tomorrow to finish. The sign says from 9-3

Ron, some people just can't grasp working from home or remotely. I've been working remotely for about 15 years. I spent 13 years managing a fully distributed staff who were 90%+ remote. It takes discipline, technology, and a solid plan for mental wellness. The first and last are where people fail. It's like the person who MUST call you to ask a simple question that could easily go into IM. What they really want is social interaction, a conversation, nothing to do with work. My Manager's boss cannot manage an 8 hour day from home, because she lacks discipline and is too easily distracted. Add to it her inability to use most of the tools available to us and it makes her world way too complicated to work from home.

Thanks Bob! That makes a lot of sense.

I don't want them saying what if! It will definitely be quite different than just vacationing!
My sister and BIL lived there for 2 years, enjoyed it but that was enough for them. BIL got $10K and 2 years shore duty for re-upping in the Navy after his initial 4 years out of ROTC. That was back around the early 80's IIRC.

My Manager's boss cannot manage an 8 hour day from home, because she lacks discipline and is too easily distracted. Add to it her inability to use most of the tools available to us and it makes her world way too complicated to work from home.
And she get paid the big bucks. Peter Principle?

This is very insightful. I have friends who have a hard time with the isolation since starting work@home; not sure if Covid puts a special twist on that considering the additional isolation it puts people in.
