Their fur is beautiful too which was why they were introduced - for the fur trade. DH joked he'll have to learn how to skin them and tan the hides. To buy anything made from possum fur is very pricey.
our possums are ugly, we usually trap and put down cause like yours, they eat eggs and some people say they don't eat chickens but i've caught them in the chicken pens and dead chickens so don't care what some people say, they do kill chickens so they're not welcome on our place

and yet there are millions of them as there's nothing to eat them.
Perhaps you would like to import some foxes, coyotes and bobcats ;)

He's now a believer - too late.
Which is why we have this problem.

jae, your possums are so much cuter than what we have here in the states
Just looked, yep, definitely a different animal.

What kid? He should do it! After all he's just harvesting them and using their pelts for the purpose they were imported. Skin them and put the skins in the freezer so they can be processed later.

How IS that possum stew anyway? :D

Um, I think it's best if you keep those foxes, coyotes and bobcats. Our poor native birds have it tough enough with feral cats, possum, stoats, and rats. Many birds are only surviving on remote outer islands. I'd love a few Kakapo in my backyard, but the poor things wouldn't stand a chance on the mainland. They are such cute birds.

We used to export possum meat to Japan, but then the Department of Conservation (in all its wisdom) started dropping 1080 poison to kill off pests, so that killed that industry too. 🙄

We are slowly learning new skills and skinning possum might be one for the future, especially if we keep catching them at this rate. I wish our dog would eat possum, but she's fussy (especially when it comes to anything with gooey bits).
