The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

This cold front extends a long ways for sure.

Mine are just thrilled to be out of the prairie wind and blowing snow. Their new set up is much nicer and I can tell they feel better, their feathers look good and their bodies have plumped up a little. And I'm totally thankful to not have to shovel out a run or break up ice in a waterer!
Dealing with snow is completely foreign to me LOL!

It is odd to have a 4 bedroom 3 bath house that has such a small kitchen
Sure is. Must be the "trend" was eat out or take out. Both my Dad and my in-laws live in retirement communities. They have full kitchens, certainly big enough for 2 to work and neither family EVER cooks dinner since dinner in the dining hall/restaurant is included in the monthly rent price. Dad hasn't ever used the oven in his place. Sounds like both kitchens must be bigger than yours!

We are supposed to be getting an ex-tropical cyclone dumping some rain on us. It's super dry here at the moment so I'm really hoping that happens. We still have enough feed for our animals, but the grass needs some rain to give it a boost. And our water tanks do need a top up. :fl

Hope everyone has a lovely Valentines Day tomorrow. 💗

The older ones are all well on their way to being fully weaned. The younger ones are all down to 2 feeds a day, so life is a lot easier for me.

But we have 2 hatchlings in the aviary at the moment, with more fertile eggs in the nest. But I don't actually know whose babies they are, or if they are from 2 different hens. The original pair who was nesting there still sit on the eggs and feed the chicks, but another hen who I kept finding in the box before anyone was incubating the eggs also has turns.

There is also the '3rd wheel', a male who helped out the original pair and is now helping out with this batch of chicks and eggs. He's not the father of any of them, but he's been working so hard raising other birds babies. It's sweet, and I'll have to make sure he gets the chance to have his own family next season.

The first chick that hatched is split to whiteface, so it cannot be from the original pair. It could be from the other hen, and if it is a boy I'll be keeping it as I have a whiteface hen to match it up with and I should get some lovely babies from them. It's the fattest chick ever with so many 'parents' feeding it. 🤣

Thankfully DH has finished building me a spare little aviary that I can isolate pairs in, so there'll be no more nest swapping next season.

When you find time...I would love to see some updated pictures! I just watched a video of a parakeet hatching...so incredibly tiny! :love
