Maybe NZ should send vaccines to where the seasonal workers are?Our economy is pretty much based on tourism and agriculture/horticulture. So being shut off from the rest of the world longterm is going to be a bit of a killer. Our horticulture sector relies on seasonal workers from other countries (mostly the pacific islands) when it's picking season. There are hundreds of millions of dollars worth of produce that will have to be left to rot because there is such a shortage of workers and the government won't let seasonal workers in, even if they are from a pacific island nation with no cases and despite the growers themselves being prepared to put the workers up in their facilities to quarantine for two weeks! Sadly many of the growers will be forced to call it quits after this season. Fruit and veg are expensive enough as it is and the current situation is not going to help.
Once we can afford it we will create our own orchard (with many mandarin trees for our son). At the moment we are saving for a huge freezer to put a cow or two in.![]()
Of course vaccines are in short supply and expensive
