3 trees fell down at my house and I was going to go clean them up for my dad but didn't want me using the chainsaw and told me to wait till he came home but my stubborn butt decided to just hand saw all them by the time he got back from work. I'm sweaty and a little tired but I got it done

She's a beautiful heifer calf. We've named her Earlybird. She's two days early (plus that's what I'll have to be to keep up with the milking).

Maisy is being an awesome mother. I knew she was acting funny this morning and watched her like a hawk. She pushed that calf out in about 45 minutes which is quick for a heifer. I was there for most of it and a couple of times she came over to me I think for reassurance. She really is the sweetest girl. I did milk out some colostrum (I've frozen it in case of emergency) and Maisy didn't mind at all. It's kind of magical how you squeeze and milk (well, colostrum at this stage) comes out. Maisy has beautiful long teats, perfect for hand milking.

Our other pregnant heifer got a little too interested and in the evening we separated her into another paddock as she was trying to baby nap Earlybird. She will have her calf very soon, and hormones make them want to love on other babies, but Maisy and Earlybird need to bond, so I thought separating them was the best thing to do.

I'm exhausted but so happy she's a girl. We'll get her AI'd at 18 months old so that we'll have a spring calf from Maisy and an autumn calf from Earlybird so I'll have milk all year round. That's the plan anyway.

Poor little Carmen is still waiting for some friends to play with. She looks more like a puppy than a lamb. This was her a couple of days ago.

We've had awful weather Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday was very wet and windy. Today has been less wet but still very windy. Typical spring weather though.

We spent yesterday recovering from the visiting grandchildren. Pop, my dl, was barely moving. His neuropathic disease makes some days worse than others. I'm hoping he will feel more spry today.
The weather is pretty nice, high 80s, but dry. We could use a little rain.
