Hi Sue!
Happy happy birthday @ronott1 :D

Good morning, afternoon, evening all.
Hi Bruce!

Sure has been a tough week. Lost my sister to diabetes. This getting older is hard in many different ways. Seeing loved ones pass before you I would say is the hardest. On 2020 I lost a sister here at home, in 2021, in the exact month, I lost my husband here at home. Now in 2022 I lose another sister. At least it was fast. She just said she didn't feel well, which she hadn't for years really, but she knew she needed help. An Ambulance was called, she passed on the way to the hospital. That's two siblings of the 5 of us. I have another sister and a brother still here. I'm the oldest. Oh dear.

Mom was a very stoic woman - she lived to be 97. One day in a moment of melancholy she said to me, "People think that having to depend upon others is the worst part of getting old. That's difficult, but the worst part is that so many you care about have already passed." I didn't quite get it then, but I get it now. @Cynthia12 :hugs

Good morning, all!! Happy birthday, Ron!!

After two steady days of snow, today we’re expecting the start of 3 days of rain. We have no yard right now. All we have is dirt because of putting the house up, Rain plus dirt means mud. Dogs mean mud in the new house. Mud in the new house means the new carpets and rugs don’t stand a chance. I hate this. The end.

I think we’re heading for Cody today to stock up on essentials….it’s so wonderful to have a huge pantry where we can actually get what we need plus extra of whatever it is if it’s on sale.

Contractor was here yesterday. He was going to get the posts and railings up on the porch plus take care of a few little issues in the house, but one problem took much of the day….the lack of heat in the back of the house. The furnace is on the north side in the utility room. The guest bedroom, the office/den, and the second bathroom are closest to the utility room so they are toasty warm. As you come into the dining room, kitchen, and living room, its noticeably cooler. The last room, furthest from the utility room, is our room, and we’ve been running a space heater and sometimes adding a fire in the fireplace because it’s downright cold in there.

So Wade went into the abyss known as the crawl space to see what was going on. The main metal duct that feeds the ducts to the registers had fallen down, and was just sort of dangling there held on by one strap. That break was located under where the dining room starts. It was still partially connected, so a little air was getting through, but most of what should have been warming this half of the house was warming the crawl space instead. Oh, great. So temporarily fixing that took most of the afternoon, but we still don’t have much flow of warm air coming out of the registers because the main duct, although hung back into position and reinforced with screws, has been compromised. It has some cracks in it. He will be back Monday with a new section to put in there, and he’s going to insulate the feeder ducts to each register. So much for progress on my porch.

The porch is a big deal. It’s not like we can add it in the spring because our new loan depends on it. Our construction loan specifically has “front porch with handicap ramp” in the terms. So we can’t roll over our construction loan to a conventional loan until the appraiser is satisfied, and she won’t even come out to do the appraisal until that porch is up and functional. In the meantime, interest rates are beginning to creep upwards.

Building houses, stick or modular, is not for old sissies. <sigh>
