The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Here's our new heifer we will be picking up next Sunday. She was the one I originally enquired about (she's a quarter Jersey, three quarters Highland) but she'd never been handled so the lady wasn't sure if she would tame down enough to be milked. So she thought another, who had been a pet before she bought her, would be better.

She put both in her yards and worked with them and she let us look at both yesterday. She felt the one that had been a pet might be a bit pushy, but this girl was progressing really well and showing potential. She's sure she's in calf too. She'll work with her more this week for us and then we'll keep her in our yards and work with getting her used to us.

She's in calf to a mini white Highland bull who we also met yesterday. The calves are adorable.

What a pretty girl Jae :love Looking forward to seeing little calf pictures!

@JaeG - what a cutie!!

@N F C - I’m sorry about Eenie- was she one of your Wellsummers, or is my memory completely off? I remember admiring your great, eye level brooder and the happy peeping of little chicks, and I seem to remember that you were pretty excited about the Wellies.

@DigMyChicks - I’ll let you know how this one pans out….hopefully I’ll be long gone before it ever has issues!

@chrissynemetz - She was a mess, alright! I have two that keep coming in like that, but they don’t have access to the utility/mud room without going through the dining room and hall first. When the new fence goes up this spring, it will encompass the utility room door, but for now the fence goes just beyond the hot tub room and the dogs go in and out via the patio door in the dining room. What a mess!

Morning Blooie :frow

The one I lost yesterday was a Cream Legbar. She was one of 3 and for the longest time I couldn't tell them apart so their names were Eenie, Meenie, Miney. (Then Miney grew a rose comb and became Rosey.)

I still have one Wellsummer girl. She a funny little thing, she chatters to me and is the friendliest.

eta: I have a total of 4 chickens now, almost forgot the bossy white mixed one.

Thank you! I hate this because it's hard on the creatures. Oh! I wanted to tell you the bird feeders are full of Cardinals, Blue jays, and Doves to name a few. :highfive:

You get a nice mix of wild birds!

Mostly I have sparrows but they are so fun to watch, they're real little comedians. Once in a while I get a couple of Jays and Finch and once I had a woodpecker. Not as much variety as you get but I enjoy seeing all of them.

Those sparrows are indeed, cute to watch I see them in TSC and Wally world.

There's one that has decided the rafters of my back porch is the perfect place to spend the night. He shows up around 4:30pm most every night and stays there until it's light the next morning. He doesn't mind us at all. It's fun to see one so close up.
