The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Do any of you have plans for the 4th of July?
We do not. I've given myself a day off. For the last several days the Princess has been saying that I had a fever. Last night I became chilled, started shaking, skin was painful to the touch - went to bed at 7:30 soaked 2 Henleys with sweat. Right now I feel okay, but will take a Covid test when the Princess gets up.

Good morning, Sour. I hope you don't have any more discomfort.

I hope you beat this really soon. As always plenty of fluids 🌷

Had my appointment with the ENT “doctor” today. What a disaster. Here’s the scenario, start to finish.

* His office was - was - located in the Billings Clinic Medical Center in Cody, near Walmart. So we got there and we’re informed that he moved in May. Nobody could tell me that when the appointment was made? Then I realized I’d seen him before when my throat was closed up and didn’t care much for him then. Oh oh.

* New office is a long, skinny building and there are no rooms. NO rooms, just those portable office cubicle dividers. So much for Hipa. I’m surprised there is a door on the restroom.

* Handed insurance info over to receptionist and explained that our car insurance would be primary, then Medicare, then lastly our supplement. She was totally confused and had to make a phone call to see how to handle that. She explained to us that with insurance every single step has to be done in exact order or they can’t get paid. She said after 3 times of making insurance mistakes they don’t get paid at all, and they were already on chance #2. She said they had $300,000 in payments that weren’t coming in because of insurance mistakes, and because of that they had to let all of their employees go because they couldn’t afford to pay them. Now I ask you, in what professional office does a receptionist tell a patient those kinds of awful financial details?

* Went into a cubicle and the doctor finally came in. He was delayed because he was waiting for a fax from the audiologist with my hearing test results. Get this….he came in carrying the green clipboard with the paperwork I’d filled in clipped to it. He was using it as a tray to carry his cup of coffee on!! He sat down and immediately asked, “Have you ever had major surgery?” I started to list them and he stopped me, saying, “That’s enough. I don’t need to hear any more.” He announced to us that my hearing tests revealed that I’m totally deaf in my left ear. Yeah, I’ve kinda known that for 11 years. I figured it out all by myself when I couldn’t hear out of it. <sigh>

* Without even examining me, he tells us, “Well, I’m not gonna do anything for you because you can’t take Prednisone.” Not, I’m really sorry but your allergy is concerning…or…Prenisone is the usual treatment but unfortunately we can’t do that….I could have understood and respected that. Instead I felt like something he wanted to scrape off his shoe. Just that blunt statement. He said he wasn’t even going to do any kind of testing. Then he said, “You’ve got hearing aids now so you’ll have to use them.” I told him I had the hearing aids but that they were just demos. I have to return them in a couple of weeks and they’re so expensive I don’t know if we can get new ones. He just shrugged and basically said then I’d have to learn to go without.

* He got ready to leave and Ken said, “What about her middle ear?” He finally put his coffee down - he’d been drinking it the whole time - and came over, took out my hearing aid, looked, and said, “It looks healthy.” Then he left. Total appointment time, less than 5 minutes. Humanity, zero. Compassion, zero. Professionalism, zero. Interest (real or feigned), zero.

Ken and I were furious….not necessarily about nothing being able to be done, but about the crappy treatment. And I still don’t know if there are any options besides Prednisone even available. I’m going to call my primary, ask him to set me up with the really good ENT I saw in Billings when I lost my left ear hearing, and strongly suggest that the clinic and the ER stop referring patients to this moron. I’ve heard of bad bedside manner, but this was beyond anything either of us had ever experienced. And on the way out, the receptionist (and only other employee, BTW) had the audacity to ask me to leave a review!!! Nah, sweetheart, you really don’t want me to go to your website and do that now do you???
Oh no! Hope my visit is better. Going up North to U of U to a specialist. I'm so bad now that I have to sit most of the day. Have to go to bed in a chair sitting up, can't lay down or I feel even worse in the morning. I really don't think my problem is ears. I ended up in my city clinic a few weeks back with the room spinning. That was a loose crystal, because I don't usually have spinning. Epley manuever worked after doing it off and on all that day. This Dr though, he suggested I go up North because he believes the specialists are better. I thought I was done with them, but I don't want to live in a chair the rest of my life. After this Lady doc does the hearing test..my left ear is going big time too .. and listens to me, I'm hoping she can direct me to a neurologist. You can bet I've been online searching and searching after years of Drs not being able to explain me. I do have Occipital Neuralgia. I think the closest I've come to finding anything that sounds like me is Bow Hunter Syndrome. Will see if she agrees. Good luck to you Blooie. Not sure if you have the imbalance thing going on, if so, I know your misery. ♥️ And oh, I've seen a few Drs the past few years with no empathy. Then I've also seen some that have sat there staring at me, wheels turning and saying, man I wish I could help you.

Happy 4th..and all I have to say is if you're traveling, drive safe! Our granddaughter was driving all of their family, but my son and a grandson, to Mexico..8 people in the car including mom. She went to merge, saw that a car was coming up fast, she over corrected the car and flipped it twice. A miracle happened. No was hurt too bad. Mom.. daughter in law, had a goose egg on head, a couple of kids had scratches. The firefighters were amazed that it didn't burn out worse for them. A miracle happened for my family yesterday. Check out how many air bags were in that van. I've been saying thank you prayers since I got a message from my son..thstvstsyed home yesterday. Him too!
