The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Hello! I'm trying to wake up. I have a small job today, but they just live right up the street.

It's been really cool out these last few mornings. It's not unusual to get our first frost towards the end of August.

Okay, I need some more coffee. Happy Wednesday, all!

Hi Jen, that's convenient your job is close by today. Enjoy your cool mornings and coffee!

Thanks, Debby. Yep, it was good. Already back home. Their ram is a handful. I didn't really want to tip him so I haltered him to the fence and did him standing up. I have only ever done this with llamas, lol. It worked well, though.
We did not. My beans are getting a disgusting white slimy mold. I pulled a flower from my rock garden yesterday, same thing. It was rotten. We planted new trees this year. Good year for it.

I’m canning more green beans now. This will be it. I only have 2 pint jars left. I will have 45 pints when I’m done today.

I’m getting a haircut this afternoon and then we’re going camping. It’s hot and humid and should be an absolutely delightful time.😅
I hope most of what you grew is salvageable! At least the trees will be happy for it. I don't know how many trees we've lost just trying to keep them watered before they get established, it's sad.

Have a nice time camping, DMC!

Glad you and the ram came to an agreement on how to best work together. :thumbsup

We won’t get cauliflower or squash. The tomatoes are coming but are very small. The peppers are very tiny too. Good thing I over can and freeze every year.

You almost have to water trees every other day. Even with all the rain we’ve had we’ve had to water them a few times.

That's too bad about some of your vegetables DMC.

How did you learn to can? Did someone teach you or are you self-taught?
My mom water bathed. I loved going into her fruit cellar and seeing everything she canned. I was so lucky that I had a mother that did it. I taught myself to pressure can. I was terrified at first. I thought it was going to blow through the ceiling. I’ve been pressure canning for 18 years now.

That's a nice memory to have about your mother canning. ❤️
