Hi DMC, we're in for another hot and humid day today...are you going to have a nice weather day? (Some one should!)

We are in for a hot, steamy, wet day. It is getting old. You are right, someone should.

I'm not sure why they changed it. Our schools used to start in late August. Even my grandsons in the Dallas area, and my greats in Arkansas, have started back. The last term ended the 1st or 2nd week of May. I just think summer break should be longer.

We go until after memorial again this next school year. Not a good thing. We were all checked out this past one. I agree, summer break should be longer.

Many years ago the Texas house considered implementing a policy where public schools didn't open until after labor day. This was due to the cost of cooling the buildings and because the busses were so hot. I don't know why it didn't work out. It certainly would have made sense. Probably some lobbying group or another got it killed like they did the no time change bill.

We used to start after Labor Day. I’m not sure when that got changed. Once my kids graduated, I didn’t pay attention to school happenings.

Way back in the olden times, that was the reasoning behind my school years timing. None of the schools had a/c so they didn't start until after Labor Day and ended before Memorial Day. It was still blasted hot somedays but summer was longer. Also, we didn't have soooo many days throughout the school year when school was closed for teacher in-service days and such.

P.S. And in the winter we still walked through 3feet of snow uphill both ways in a dress! (No slacks allowed unless it was colder than 10*).
