Chapter 16: a Storm approaches


The yellow gleamed in the shadows, glaring a the large gray wolf, blood smeared on its muzzle, from the feast. Onyx's eye flickered to the young blackish wolf at the Alpha's side, he watched as the pup tried to bully his way to the tender meat. He scanned the rest of the pack, taking in each wolf and guess their position in the pack.
  Sky fell away, melting into the shadows, unnoticed. She kept her head low, her ears back, as she sprinted for the river, diving into the cool crisp water, washing off the scents of Onyx. She drug herself into the bank, shaking out her fur, the water clinging to the strands of fur and glittering in the sun. She slowly headed back for her pack.
   Aki felt fit to pop, his belly round, and the pack well fed, he turned and barked at the pack, the signal to head home. But first he stopped to scent mark the elk.
  Eclipse led the pack into the forest, she wasn't heading for the dens, instead she decided to head for a small meadow by the river. There the pack could bask in the warm sun and have lazy spring day. Nighta and Luna romped along, bounding this way and that, snapping at each other, two lanky pups with boundless energy. Eclipse smiled at them, the back at the rest of the pack, finally laying her gaze on Aki, who was bringing up there rear.
  Just as their eyes locked, Aki was gone! Smashed off the path in a blur of yelps and snarls!!!!
  Onyx rushed from the shadows where had paralleled Aki. He smashed into the alpha, his teeth sinking into Aki's shoulder. "You retched mutt!" Onyx spat.
Aki yelped as the blur of snarls slammed him to the ground. He threw his head around, snapping at the wolf, ripping his ear to shreds.
Onyx growled, and leapt away, as Aki's teeth closed just inches from his eye. He stalked in a circle, his head low, his lips curled, his ears pinned back, and his hackles raised. "You stupid mutt!" He growled, "You steal my pups, my land!" His voice dripped with venom. "You will die for crossing me!"   
Aki's eyes swam with fury and confusion. "Your land!? Your pups!?" He snarled, his eyes locked on the male wolf as they circled each other.
Onyx snapped his teeth, lunging for Aki's throat. Aki growled and jumped back. They began to circle again, their bodies low, their eyes burning with rage. Their teeth gleamed as they moved through broken sunlight. Matching each other step for step as if preforming some ancient dance.
Eclipse raced down the path, her eyes staring down at Aki and the intruder. She leapt down the small hill, bounding to Aki's side. Her eyes burned with intensity and her body shook with a guttural snarl. "Who are you?" She asked.
Koga looked at Rain. "Take them home." He nodded to the pups. And the charged off towards Aki and Eclipse. He slid down the hill, and skidded up beside his Alphas.
Onyx stopped circling, he eyed the two new wolves. A wild look glinted in his eye, a deep growl rumbled his chest. "Those pups you have were MINE!" He roared leaping At Aki.
The speed in which Onyx leapt caught Aki off guard, he started to turn, he planned to take the brunt of the attack to his flank. But suddenly his vision was blocked by a blur of fur. His eyes wide, he looked around, he caught sight of both Koga and Eclipse, neither had moved.
Onyx's teeth sank into the snowy gray pelt. Staining it blood as he violent shook his head tearing into flesh. The snowy gray wolf yowled, twisting it sunk its teeth into Onyx's neck, a low gurgling whine escaped Onyx's lips as he collapsed to the ground....lifeless, Snow gray wolf still in his jaws, dragging him to the ground. The Snow gray wolf whined. Shakily trying to its legs.
Aki stared, looking at Koga and then Eclipse. "Who......?"
"Rain took the pups home." Koga said.
"Its not me." Sky said coming from around a large pine tree.
Aki's gaped as snow gray wolf turned to look at him, he couldn't believe his eyes it was..............

Chapter 17: facing the past

Aki's eyes were wide with amazement and confusion. "St.....Storm?" He stuttered.
  The Snow gray wolf turned, a sly smile on his face. "Hello brother." He barked.
  "What....What are you doing here?" His brow furrowed with confusion. "How did you find me?"
   "Hi Storm! Wow its great to see you, how have you been? thanks for saving." Storm mocked. "I've been walking for miles, when I heard of a new pack forming. I came to check it out, found you." He smiled.
   Aki just stood there, he still couldn't believe his brother was standing right in front of him. "Aki?" Eclipse said from behind him. "Who is this?"
  Storm's eyes fell on Eclipse. "Hello beautiful, I'm Storm. Aki's brother."
     "I'm Eclipse." She answered "Aki's mate, and Alpha."
  "Ha. So you finally became an Alpha." Storm jokingly said.
   Sky and Koga walked up and introduced themselves.
  "Nice to meet you." Storm smiled.
Aki shook his head, clearing away the surprise. "We were headed back to the dens. Come on."
Koga, Skyuka and Storm walked ahead, talking and sharing stories.
  Aki looked at Eclipse, a slight worried looked glinted in his eye. "I thought you said your father killed or ran off all your brothers?"
  "Storm, was younger than me. He's only about a year and a half now." Aki paused, allowing the others to get further ahead. "Storm is well wild. He has no regard for authority, or boundary, he lacks discipline, he is trouble."
  Eclipse nodded. "Do you not want him here?"
Aki sighed. "Its not that I don't want him here, its that I just worry about what he could do."  
They reached the dens. Rain and the pups came running from the dens, "Dad, Mom!" Luna and Nighta Yipped in unison. "Are you okay?"
"We're fine." Aki smiled.
"Wow, alpha and a dad." Storm poked fun. "I'm your uncle Storm." He smiled.
After sitting and talking a catching up the pack finally moved into the dens for a good night of sleep........

In the middle of the night Storm stirred from his sleep, he jogged away from the dens, deep into the valley. Aki had been roused from slumber by his brother, he quietly stalked after him. Storm halted near the mouth of the valley, he threw his head back and let out a low howl. Aki watched from the shadows, as two figures walked across the open land, silhouetted by the moon.
