The Nuzzler laid 2 shell less eggs and other egg material today.

Ughh! The amoxicillin is not getting any easier when Nuz now knows it is coming and wants no part of it.

I found this mold that I bought years ago and never used. It is silicone and for epoxy or resin jewelry making.

I mixed the capsule contents right into the square, triangle and diamond with the smallest amount of coconut oil possible and chilled. Those are easiest to cut into approximately equal halves.
I will only be using just the diamond now because the shape when halved is easier to administer and not as tall in the mold, making it thinner.
I just feel like too much coconut oil melting in the area by her trachea risks aspiration so the less the better.

I only had the 500mg capsules because it made sense for what I was using it for before. More bang for the buck too...
250 would be easier for chickens for sure! The stuff is getting hard to find now too. 😭

I think Nuz laid a very light colored 44g egg yesterday. When I was leaving for work, she was at the nest box making the sounds she does when she wants to lay. Upon coming home, there was Red's predictable brown egg and the light one. It had to be hers because Dove's eggs have a little hurricane symbol on the small end even if they are similar in color. Nuz laid a normal Nuz egg today, but with a lot of fuss and a little bit of poop on it. I was about to go see what was up with her when I realized she just laid it. A bit larger than yesterday's at 51g and lime green.

Nuz won't even accept a grape from me or my daughter now because of the pillings.😭

I know amoxicillin tastes and smells bad but I never adulterated her food or treats. I hope she comes to trust us again after this. She doesn't run away or anything, just shakes her head and wipes her beak like the offering is nasty.

It is hard enough because she is second to last in the pecking order and will freeze up because she is afraid Red, the first, will come barging in on our treat interaction as she does. Red can not be ignored or denied... We usually used lap time for a chance to get treats in peace but it is now pill time and I hate it. Can't wait until this is over with.

I will do the full course because I suspect that half assed antibiotic dosing because one seems to be better could contribute to evolution of antibiotic resistance. She seems to be tolerating it well and feeling much better other than hating the pill forcings. Just a bit of messy poops, but not all poops.

Woo! Last day of meds!

Edit: Nuz is taking treats from me again but when I let her put her head in a little treat bag. I like to use a bit of a treat right after pilling to make sure she got it down OK.

I am hoping for a 3 egg day today, (all my current layers).
Nuz was talking about laying an egg this morning, but has not laid anything the other day or yesterday. I have no idea if that is concerning because I just don't know how chickens do with a laying schedule.

I only know that Red lays every day with a day off every so often after laying late in the day. Dove does not lay every day but about every other day and has done soft shell eggs during bedtime that might be stress related because she did them when there was too much noise, a raccoon tried to get in, and when we trained Cleatus to sleep with the girls. Dove certaintly has issues of her own and has had watery poops since she was young that have not been resolved with corid or deworming with albendazole. She just doesn't appear to act sick. She seems to fill her crop with water and squirt it out without even getting a dirty butt. A talent, I am sure because Nuz gets a little soft stool and it gets in her feathers easily.

After I cleaned everyone's butt when they all had a little something going on, only Nuz has an issue that was likely related to her egg issue and now the antibiotics. She does some formed and some runny.

The Nuzzler laid yesterday and today. Lovely eggs too. Today's egg is darker than I have ever seen from her. I love it. The first photo is of yesterday's egg next to Red's egg. The two last photos are of today's end of the day egg. Lighting is weird...

I am so happy about coming home from work and not pilling anyone and am hoping for the best with the issues Nuz had. Hopefully it was just pullet issues but those membrane things with yellow in it scared me. The first I found could totally look layered if it hardened inside if that is the way lash material forms if something gets stuck. IDK, maybe just borrowing trouble...😬

I made the Moro Carrot Soup for everyone but mostly Dove to see if it can help with her chronic diarrhea but would have made it anyway because Nuz was on antibiotics. All the chickens like it but of course Dove seems to have eaten the least of it. Nuz had some orange staining in the sides of her mouth so I know she enjoyed quite a bit when my daughter reheated and put some out for them this morning. I leave before daylight for work so really don't know how that went with Dove.

I also bought some Fage yogurt for them to help with gut bacteria. Nobody seems to like that at all. I even threw a few pieces of scratch on it to encourage them to try it and they still don't care for it so far. Picky chickies!

I'm glad she's doing much better and laying eggs.

Sounds like they are all doing o.k. I've never tried the Moro Soup, but have read it is good to give.

For yogurt, try mixing it with a little feed to make a mushy mash (you can add a little water is needed).
Sometimes birds are picky and just don't like something, so there's that too:)

I will definitely make a mash with it. It is so thick I never even thought to do that.

My chickens seem to dislike a lot of the chicken favorite foods I have found when searching online. Were the chickens these were tested on starving? LOL

I don't know, mine can be picky too.
