Hello! This is the Official BYC Go Green Club! Together, we can help the Earth become a better place! There will be new activities posted and ways to help the environment! If we work together, we WILL make a difference!

Do you want to join us and make a change? If you would like to help us make a difference, PM me with your username and something you have been doing to help make a change. I will add you to the list of members! Lets see if someday, some how, we can get 100 members, working to help the environment!

Ways YOU can make a difference:
*In the winter, turn your thermostat down and in the summer, turn it up a little to save energy and money!
*Unplug any unused chargers. Even if the device is unpluged, the charger is still using up energy.
*Wash your laundry in cold water.
*Every now and then, just take a walk around your yard and collect trash.
*Recycle! If you don't have a local recycling orginazation, you can find other ways to reuse your "trash"!
*Reuse your bottles and plastic silverware, etc!
*Try to avoid using plastic water bottles. Instead, use reusable bottles that you will re wash.
*Take shorter showers with colder water. (I know its torture!)
*Take a shower instead of a bath. Showers often times use up less water than baths.
*Use CFL lightbulbs in place of energy consuming bulbs.
*Hang clothing out to dry instead of using an automatic dryer.
*Try composting instead of throwing food and stuff out. It makes great fertilizer!
*Turn off lights around the house when youre not using them.
*Let your chickens free-range! It cuts down on feeding costs and is good for the yard, too!
*Grow your own garden! Its a lot of fun and you can sell the veggies!
*When buying a car, choose one with high MPG.
*Hunt for your own food, or fish for your own food in place of buying it at a store.
*Feed leftovers to chickens etc instead of pitching them.
*Pay bills on line to generate less paper waste.
*Use reusable grocery bags, but if you do use plastic, reusethe plastic bags as garbage can bags etc.

*MORE TO COME!

What do you know? Going green can also save you some green!

As a member, please post things that you have been doing to help the environment!

Our motto is... "REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE!"

I am not a fanatic about being green but I do think that beeing green means more gr$$n in my pocket.

I use CFL in as many of my lights as I can.
I recycle through the trash company as well as recycle for cash in my pocket.
I use a "high efficiency" washer and drier.
I hang clothes to dry when possible.
I have energy star rated appliances.
I have my thermostat set at 63.
I have a energy efficient wood burning fireplace that I am able to heat with.
I compost everything I can. That reduces my trash and creates fertilizer for my garden.
I have a garden and grow a lot of my own vegetables.
I let my chickens free range as much as possible. Reduces feed and helps the yard.
I continuously turn off lights around the house.
I take cooler, shorter showers. (Now if only I could get my wife to do the same)

I reuse plastic bottles for water.
I use a soda maker in place of buying soda at the store.
I hunt and fish for food.

Now I know my vehicles are not high fuel efficient and I have a boat that could never be called fuel efficient and I'm sure that there is more to be done to be GREEN but these are the things that I have done so far.

Knock some green paint over your head and you will be "green" too.
I don't believe in being "green" but think people should become more self sufficent and know where their food comes from.
