hmmm what an interesting idea. I think the base of the site is just a database with a dataset for colors another for pattern an then one to track parentage which gives inbreeding percentages. You could also set up another dataset for shapes comb type or whatever you want to include in the inheritable traits. I don't imagine it would be overly difficult to do. We would need a set of pictures or drawings for the differnt body shapes tail shapes, topknots, combs, ect. I bet we if we work togehter could make our own improved better verison of poultryland.

I'm starting to look at database options, and asking around to see what kind of web solution will work for making a web based chciken breeding game.

How involved of a game is everyone looking for? I think that I would want to be able to select for comb type, color on body, wings, head, saddle, tail, topknot, feet and tail flukes. Pattern on the same parts. amount of feet feathers, parital or full, comb color. I'm thinking of something similar to poultryland yet different enough to make it it's own thing. Anyone have any suggestions on what we as a group want the game to be albe to do? Shows? types of shows? earing points to improve your birds like poutry land? or do we want to make a 'genetics' database that somehow averages the parents together and makes a new improved bird so that you have to work at breeding your flock to get what you want? we could even make it a little more random taking the parts of both birds and adding in better features of both, or sometimes worse features of both as happens in real breading of animals, so you have to work at selecting the charateristics you want to have in your birds.

I was also thinking of starting with a generic 'chicken' that has all the possible charateristics in there so to make a breed you have to select for charateristics you want your final breed to have and then once you get it stable and breeding true a few generations you get to name the breed. and the breed goes in the database as something you can buy or order from the virtual hatchery. Ov course ordering from the hatchery gets you just an average bird of that breed and you again have to work at getting the 'perfect' chicken.

any thoughts?

My thoughts are, "you thought that out pretty well!" I'd like to be able to breed realistic Seramas, Poultryland's were totally pet quality.

To make them realistic, we would have to have more drawings than the poultryland provides, I'm not artistic at all, and I don't know what shapes different chickens should have anyway. I was thinking we could start with say 10 body type shapes and we could also scale them so we could have standards and bantams and have them look different and be different sizes.

I'm still not sure what a show quality serama should look like, at least in person. My oldest ones are only 4 months old. one of my cockrels is slim and the other is pretty round. The round one's wings seem a bit too long or maybe his legs are too short as when he tries to get 'vertical' with his wings they touch the ground. they other's my slim doesn't get quite a vertical yet. but his wings are about a half inch from the ground when he does try. I'll have to try to get some pictures of them posing, which isn't easy to do they are quick and don't like to sit still for pictures. They do like to sleep on my lap under a blanket though. They all insist on it

I can help a bit with the art. This is going to be tricky! If it works, this could be really cool!
