The OHIO NATIONAL 2013

Sneezing, and listen for wheezing at night when they are sleeping. Open mouth (because they can't breathe well). Appetite dropping off.
We are starting ours on Oxytet 2 tsp per gallon for ten days, for all of them. Gallimycin works too. If you are keeping yours together and just one
is sick, it's ok to treat them all. Hopefully yours are quarantined away from your existing flock, if you had one. You should always do this (keep any
new birds you buy quarantined away from your existing flock for the first three or four weeks). They are so stressed out from all the travel, and the
show too, and then having to adjust to a totally new environment, that it is easy for them to get sick, as it would be for anyone under the same
circumstances.

One of our Lavender Ameraucaunas that we bought there is sick, she has respiratory symptoms. We will start all three on anitibiotics tomorrow I guess, but heads up for others who bought Ameracaunas there, since they might be sick, too...

Who did you get them from?

Stupid me, I didn't get the breeder's name or card. It was a big guy, heavyset, probably in his 40's. He was with a lady, and they had a lot of Lavenders. Normally I'm not that careless, but I was in a hurry and just saw them on the way out, and wanted them.

When I got my birds in 2011 they got respiratory issues. I used a combination of the drugs you mentioned. Works like a charm.
WE got a peahen in 2009 from a breeder (not the breeder that was there this year) Anyway, she got sick with a respiratory thing a few days after we brought her home, too. She was showering feathers and obviously stressed. We took her to a vet and she did recover, no problem. This year I started to bring home another hen, the Blue Red Faverolle, but we got her in the car and I thought she might be sick, she was showering feathers and had rattly breathing. So we took her back. :(. You do have to be careful.

We started our Ameracaunas on Oxytet in the water and gave the sick little one 1/8 250 mg Cipro tab down the hatch too. She is already improving a bit, so hopefully we won't have a big problem. Hoping the antibiotics will work well on them since they're still just babies. The other two seem ok...

I met that guy. Did buy from him. I have a friend that knows him well sorry you got a sick bird.

I'm not necessarily blaming the breeder. Like I said, the birds get sick I think because of all the stress, and they could have caught it from someone else handling multiple birds, or anything.
Some breeders let everyone handle their birds that is interested in buying but I think that's a bad idea. This guy was nice, and he gave us a good deal. You just have to be careful, that's all.
Anyway, the three Lavenders are improving lots, the antibiotics are kicking in and all three have improved appetites and are a lot more cheerful overall, so I think they will be ok.

Oh I didn't think that as he is a very trustworthy person, his birds were around a lot of ducks also, which are wet, wet and did I say wet.

Hmm, that is interesting, because our peahen that I mentioned that I got from there in 2009 that developed the respiratory thing too, the guy
I bought her from said she came with 200 ducks, and just her...

Bet she was wet, too. Good to know that the Ameracauna breeder is trustworthy, thanks for letting us know.
Our babies are getting better all the time.
