Ok who is ready to help with my biddy foot mystery? I posted about a week ago that one of my birds outside had swollen toes. You guys suggested frostbite, and with my weather, that was likely. I brought the bird indoors but nothing has progressed to frostbite, and in fact nothing has changed at all, really. The right foot is much more swollen, in places, than the left.

We have a lot of bumble here, but this isn't bumble. There's no wound or scab. The swelling is localized in odd places, like the tip of her back toe and her middle toe joint.







I put her in the foot soak spa for about 15 minutes in some hot water to clean the feet so I could examine for wounds better. I can't see anything.

Any ideas?

Uric acid build up? a type of gout.

M synoviae symptoms generally has the hocks and feet pads swollen. That's not seen here but interesting guess.

I'd like to know what it is myself. Many years ago my old Cocker had toes like that - swollen around the toes only. No sign of injury or skin trouble. I don't think it was painful to her. She did have arthritis in her spine and it made her whimper when she had to bend down to go through the dog door.

I haven't seen one.

We often have Killer Whales, and sometimes other whales, and different porpoises. We always have seals and sea otters.

I'm in, but I can only drive if someone is navigating and only 3 hours at a stretch. I get lost turning a corner.

Maybe they talked to my neighbor about the horrors of living next to a flock. The only year they've ever held a garage sale I decided to butcher my chickens. No garage sales since.

If we don't know if Alaskan is a  male or female, how would we know if we found him/her/Alaskan?

Although the road trip sounds great.  I miss Alaska and love an adventure.

Small city/big town near me just ok'd backyard chickens. But absolutely no butchering outside. Huh! Could you imagine cutting the head off a chicken in you kitchen! Lol!
